The Business Technology Group (BTG) provides resources for several technology focused practices, including fully dedicated business sponsorship and ownership of strategic enterprise programs and projects, product management resources focused on delivering scalable, enterprise solutions, a Lean practice, and Organizational Change Management practice dedicated to empowering our business partners to manage, facilitate, and positively experience change through engagement, training & coaching. Our group works with multiple business unit stakeholders, as well as shared service groups, in order to successfully understand and represent business value across teams, resulting in the right technology solutions for high-value Enterprise objectives.

Great American Insurance Group is seeking a Product Professional to join our Business Technology Group. This is an exciting opportunity to aid our Underwriting community through technology solutions focused on process optimization and automation. Current Core Underwriting technology focus areas include automation of New Business and Renewal processes, data aggregation and lookups to provide meaningful context to Underwriters, support of Core Underwriting systems to ensure continued benefit and value is realized, and many others. This role offers the opportunity of involvement from scope refinement, prioritization, implementation, and success monitoring, as well as roadmap definition and decision making for new Enterprise Underwriting technologies. Projects in this space uniformly strive to satisfy unique business stakeholder needs while delivering scalable, enterprise solutions. 

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate vision, goals, and context related to core Underwriting Automation for scrum team(s).
  • Work closely with the business to analyze process similarities and differences across multiple Business Units.
  • Creative and strategic thinker who can propose and advocate for technology and process solutions that scale across multiple Business Units.
  • Collaborate with Business Units to develop and execute Underwriting Automation adoption strategies, supported with user training as needed.
  • Provide business leadership and subject matter expertise in defining requirements for scrum team(s).
  • Advocate for iterative business deliverables and keep stakeholders informed.
  • Assist in analyzing and socializing new technologies in support of optimized core processes.
  • Assist in capturing key drivers and business value for new Automation opportunities requested by various Business Units. Consider how success of such opportunities can be proven by documenting desired success metrics.
  • Identify and assign business value to user stories and features; demonstrate understanding of both opportunities and challenges across multiple Business Units.
  • Assist with Product Management, especially in the areas of risk and issue resolution, and functionality needed to address capability gaps.
  • Prioritize and maintain a product backlog – driving priorities based on business value.
  • Accept user stories and features into production.
  • Ensure product backlog is visible, transparent, and clear to all Business & I.T. stakeholders.
  • Responsible for timely delivery of business milestones and deliverables in collaboration with scrum team(s).
  • Coordinate activities across key business stakeholders (for purposes of prioritization, issue resolution, problem solving, implementing change).

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Required/Highly Regarded:
  • Technical Acumen, specifically, proficient in proposing the use of technology to solve problems in a scalable way, while balancing the role of advocate for the use of existing technologies and enthusiast of assessing new technologies.
  • 3 – 5 years of Property & Casualty Underwriting or related experience, and/or understanding of common insurance systems (Policy Administration, CRM, Agency Management, Claims, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience in the Product Owner/Manager role
  • Degree in Business or Information Technology, or equivalent business experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to breakdown complex problems into actionable solutions focused on high value customer needs.
  • Self-motivated and take initiative.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to lead group events to meet stated objectives.
  • Problem solver with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to organize and plan work to satisfy business objectives while being mindful and communicative regarding established timeframes.
  • Preferred:
  • Certification within or toward insurance related designations (CPCU, ARM, AINS, etc.)
  • Able to perform and lead in a challenging, collaborative work environment.
  • Able to develop and leverage strategic business relationships across the organization and externally.
  • Working knowledge of Agile Frameworks, preferably Scrum and/or SAFe.
  • Experience providing business scope or requirements for technology projects.
  • If remote, able to travel 10% of the time.
