Where is this opportunity located?  

Position has the flexibility to work from a U.S. home office and/or at the Brookings, SD Daktronics campus.

With your academic growth in the classroom, we seek to provide multiple experiences during your student career at Daktronics, which may mean rotating to different job responsibilities. 

Our engineering and manufacturing capabilities are the best in the industry. We take pride in developing new features for existing products and new products to meet our customers’ needs. This position may join a team of electrical, mechanical, and structural engineers. Available opportunities include reliability, product development, project design, and audio design. 

  • Create design solutions with AutoCAD mechanical. 
  • Develop innovative solutions for customers’ requests. 
  • Research, design, and document product and process improvements. 
  • Support component, product, and technology development and documentation. 
  • Conduct component and system testing. 
  • Balance simultaneous projects while communicating progress and roadblocks. 
  • Complete quality work in a timely manner. 
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned. 
  • Regularly and reliably work scheduled hours.

Pay and perks: 

The typical hiring pay for this position is $18.00 to $20.00. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including relevant education, experience, geographic location, and applicable local legislation.

Students with GPA of 3.5 and above are eligible for a $500 bonus (Academic Excellence Reward) each semester completed while employed. 

This position will be eligible for company benefits including, employee discount program, employee assistance program, community donation program, unpaid time off, 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Plan, leaves, disability, and accommodations.

Qualifications

Academic requirements:  

  • Candidate must be enrolled as a student and registered for at least 12 credits. 
  • Preferred candidate would be pursuing a Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering Technology. Willing to consider candidates pursuing an Associate’s degree program in Engineering Technology, Electronic Systems, Design & Drafting Technology, or other related degrees in electronics. 
  • Preferred applicant would be in their sophomore or junior year of school. 
  • Only strong academic performers will be considered. Must maintain an acceptable GPA, with preference to 3.0 GPA or greater. 
  • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered.

Other Requirements: 

  • Candidates should be available to work approximately 15 hours per week (maximum of 20 hours per week) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, self-motivation. 
  • Planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. 
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and ability to learn Daktronics computer systems and software. 
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
