Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

A Senior Business Statistician works under limited supervision and possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge to perform advanced statistical analysis to support critical business decisions. Develops, validates, enhances, and re-calibrates predictive modeling algorithms while maintaining a profitability focus.

Job Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develops, conducts and recommends appropriate statistical methodologies (generally involving the larger and more complex projects) to analyze and interpret key business data and point out significant differences. Interacts with Senior Management and product/service managers in assigned line of business to understand their challenges and recommends solutions. Interprets results and makes recommendations from the implemented modeling; evaluates progress and results and recommends major changes in procedures. Develops presentations to facilitate the communication of statistical findings to Senior Management and external clients. Designs and develops vintage reports and lift charts that validate, evaluate, and monitor the performance of models in production. Participates in the planning of data collection and the evaluation of reliability of source information while maintaining data integrity. Interacts with other departments and/or outside vendors to resolve issues. Assists in troubleshooting and performance tuning including SAS codes, report views, procedures. Automates recurring jobs and reports by setting up and scheduling processes to run in non-interactive mode, and keeps track of potential issues and errors.Ensures the accurate and timely communication of the status of assignment, job responsibilities, and the resolution of problems to the appropriate parties. Acts as a project manager on modeling projects, determining resource requirements, estimating expenses, tracking progress and reporting on status based on project milestones. Recognizes consistent errors/efficiencies and makes recommendations to managers for resolution to change. Keeps current with industry knowledge, training and development practices, trends, sources and programs. Attends industry conferences, reviews publications, establishes personal networks and participates in professional societies. Orients, trains and assists, or may be assisted by, junior level staff. Performs special projects and additional duties and responsibilities as required. Where applicable and when performing the responsibilities of the job, employees are accountable to maintain Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and adhere to internal control policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Business Administration, Operations Research, or related quantitative discipline. Minimum five years data intensive modeling experience in financial services industry, preferably in a financial services/banking environment. Masters or Doctoral Degree preferred; may substitute one or two years experience respectfully.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Comprehensive knowledge of, and the ability to apply advanced statistical and econometric principles, practices and techniques. Strong general and statistical analysis skills. Solid understanding of major algorithms for predictive modeling: Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, and Neural Networks. Proficient in SAS programming (SAS/Base, SAS/Stats, SAS/Macro, SAS/Graph, SAS/ETS), and SQL. Programming with data: ability to use a programming environment such as SAS, R, SQL to enhance and automate working with large volumes of data, for data processing, visualization and analysis. Proficiency with data visualization tools, techniques and best practices. Working knowledge of Oracle Data Warehouse, Credit Bureau data, market data, demographics, and Metropolitan Statistical Area data. Strong PC skills, intermediate proficiency with word processing, flow charting, spreadsheet and database applications. Excellent presentation skills. Strong time project/time skills. Ability to solve more complex problems, make decisions and apply good business judgment. Ability to train and assist more junior level staff. Ability to work independently and as a team player. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Self-starter with positive initiative.
