Job Summary

T.Y. Lin International Canada Inc. is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer II in our Vancouver, BC office. The Senior Bridge Engineer II provides engineering support to the Lead Engineers and Senior Project Managers. The primary scope of this role is to develop bridge and structure designs for local agencies and design-build clients, deliver projects on time, on budget and with high quality. The role may involve project management aspects as well. This position also supervises junior engineers and intermediate engineers.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform design and analysis of complex concrete and steel bridge structures. Experience with long span bridges is an asset.
  • Advanced structural engineering and analysis capabilities, including ability to perform nonlinear analysis including seismic analysis.
  • Design of reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and steel bridge structures.
  • Develop designs from conceptual to tender design phases and develop engineering drawings with the assistance of our CAD department.
  • Perform engineering design and calculations at the Senior Engineer level.
  • Perform independent design check calculations.
  • Coordinate with and direct CAD production activities for drawing production.
  • Conduct quality control activities for independent review and checking of structural designs.
  • Interface with civil engineers for development of complete project plans and specifications as required.
  • Develop technical special provisions to accompany construction plans.
  • Develop quantity and expected construction cost estimates in support of plan, specification and estimate scopes of work.
  • Develop engineering studies, reports and documentation.
  • Develop production work plans.
  • Provide design staff with guidance and assistance on projects.
  • Oversee and review calculations and designs performed by other engineers and EITs.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers.
  • Manage smaller projects and clients to ensure projects and delivered on time and budget and with high quality.
  • Interface with clients during project delivery.
  • Conduct technical analyses, documentation following TYLin’s quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Contribute to the proposal preparation effort for bridge design projects as needed.
  • Interface with clients on a project level and for general business development purposes.
  • Other assignments as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS (INCLUDING EDUCATION and JOB EXPERIENCE):

  • Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license in British Columbia is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience required.
  • Proficient in leading technical aspects of bridge projects, writing reports, preparing drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations.
  • Ability to perform design of complex bridges and their components.
  • Ability to perform advanced structural analysis and designs.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive engineering reports.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to provide deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of design codes such as CAN/CSA S6, AASHTO, ACI, CISC, etc.
  • Ability to provide QC/QA to ensure deliverables are high quality and on time.
  • Ability to lead a smaller team of engineers.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with managing smaller bridge projects.
  • Experience with working and managing BC MOTI projects, or similar public agencies.
  • Experience in proposal writing and business development activities is an asset.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel and engineering software.
  • Must possess communication and interpersonal skills necessary for effective project team collaboration and relationship building.

Additional Information

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $109,400 - $164,000 annually for this position and local market.
