The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for two Clinical Assistant Professors in the Department of Counseling Psychology (CP) beginning 9/1/2024. These positions are benefited, non-tenure track, full-time, 12-month clinical faculty positions (3-year renewable contract). As full-time CP faculty members, the Clinical Assistant Professors will participate in all faculty activities, including teaching courses, some research, advising of students, recruitment and admissions process, and department meetings. The typical distribution of effort is 60% teaching, 20% research, and 20% service. The Department of Counseling Psychology’s philosophy and mission are aligned with the MCE vision to train global leaders who employ innovative and effective approaches to advance learning throughout the lifespan, promote mental health, and advocate for social justice. Our programs prepare ethical, collaborative counselors and psychologists who can apply counseling principles to promote mental health with diverse clients. The PhD program is accredited by the American Psychological Association and the Clinical Mental Health Concentration of the MA program is accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council. Located in the city of Denver, DU is the oldest and largest independent university in the Rocky Mountain Region with high research activity and enrolls approximately 11,500 students in its undergraduate, graduate, and professional preparation programs. Position Summary

We seek a candidate with a proven record of excellence in teaching, supervision, mentoring/advising, and clinical work, as well as who values our mission of serving the public good. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to DEIJ through their teaching, research, and service. The ideal candidate demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy. The position will require an innovative and critical thinker who is capable of working within a dynamic environment.

This position will commence on 9/1/2024, with earlier duties and additional compensation negotiated with the Dean.

Essential Functions

The roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach graduate level courses.
  • Advise graduate students.
  • Work collaboratively with Counseling Psychology faculty and staff to accomplish program goals.
  • Participate in recruitment, admissions events, retention, and orientation of Counseling Psychology graduate students.
  • Perform teaching, research, and service activities as described in the Clinical Faculty Appointment and Promotion Guidelines.
  • Maintain and deepen the department’s commitment to DEIJ.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate demonstrates broad experiences in a variety of clinical settings, as well as have a distinct specialty area. Areas of experience and expertise are open. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to DEIJ through their teaching, service, and research.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, PsyD) with an emphasis in counseling psychology or related field.
  • Professional background and teaching experience in counseling psychology or related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting DEIJ, and a track record of demonstrable outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience at the MA or PhD level.
  • Evidence of scholarly contributions to the field of counseling psychology (e.g., publications, presentations, awards, etc.)

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 10 lbs.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
