BMT offer an exciting opportunity for a Senior / Principal Dredging Engineer to join our established and successful dredging advisory team who are involved in solving the ports and logistics challenges of Australia’s transition to clean energy, including the construction of new ports, offshore wind farms and green fuel projects. We are a multi-disciplinary, marine-focused consulting firm seeking an experienced professional with proven experience in ports and dredging planning and design to join our existing dredging team, servicing the ports, renewable energy, and resources and have a strong pipeline of work in Australia and more broadly APAC including:

• Dredging planning, design and approvals
• Ports site selection, planning and logistics studies
• Marine structures assessment and design
• Metocean and environmental studies

In this role you will be able to:

• Manage the successful delivery of the planning, design and execution of various capital and maintenance dredging programmes or projects in accordance with HSE and QA policies and procedures either individually, or by leading a project delivery team, depending on project complexity.
• Manage various maritime design engineering projects at concept and detailed levels with focus on design of channels and maritime infrastructure such as berths, quay wall structural systems, bulk terminals, intake and outfall structures, and rubble mound structures with sound knowledge of the application of Australian and international relevant design codes.
• Prepare proposals, fee estimates and schedules for dredging and marine consulting projects.
• Contribute to business strategy formation and business development to position BMT as a leading supplier of marine-related consulting in Australia.
• Have established relationships with Australian ports in relation to assisting clients in the delivery (or acting as Owner’s Engineer) of dredging programmes and also associated industries such as offshore wind and resources.
• Manage clients, potential and current, for the purposes of service delivery, networking, and business development.
• Provide line management, technical leadership, mentoring and supervision for junior engineers and scientists.

Relevant Education, Experience, and Skills:

Essential: 

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of Engineering or Science.
• 10 - 20 years or more professional experience in dredging planning and design / contracting.
• A broad understanding of Port operations, environmental and commercial issues.
• Sound knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
• Fully developed project management skills coupled with commercial acumen and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Sound experience in technical report writing.
• A proven track record of managing engineering design projects and working as part of a team.

Desirable:

• Experience working within a consulting environment.
• Experienced in the preparation of proposals, fee estimates and schedules.
• Experienced in the whole of project lifecycle from site selection to environmental investigations, design development, permitting, construction and operation phases
• Experience in technical and business leadership roles.
• Most importantly - A passion for technical excellence and solving complex problems in the ports and offshore industries.
