Manager, Software Development Engineering 

Our company has pushed for an “API First” approach to surfacing our business capabilities to our EG developer community. We will be building out the full-stack platform that allows API providers and API consumers to be productive in end-to-end flows from onboarding to transacting and evolving their technical and business successes. 

As a manager in software development engineering, you propose, prototype, design, and implement various core components by working with teams globally spread across the world. You will provide the thought leadership and technical expertise needed to influence the direction of the team as we build our roadmap to achieve our vision. 

What you'll do: 

• Build a team of hard-working software engineers applying your experience screening, interviewing, and growing a development team. 
• Coach and mentor engineers of varying levels within your organization for career development and progression. 
• Apply industry standards and use new technologies to improve production, quality, and system performance. 
• Ensure that features deployed have technical integrity and stability 
• Lead both technical leads and individual contributors, including ongoing training and development performance evaluations, coaching, recruiting, and disciplinary actions 
• Evaluate current team projects or goals and identify the relevant skills and expertise needed to accomplish them 
• You'll participate in the design, analysis, development, and deployment efforts for multiple enterprise application projects 
• You'll collaborate with other Developers, Program Managers, and Production Support Engineers in an agile environment to estimate and deliver objectives set together as a team 
• You'll deliver scalable, flexible, efficient, and supportable solutions using appropriate technologies 
• You'll support and follow the Expedia Software Development Lifecycle 

Who you are: 

• Bachelor's degree in BA/BS or related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience 
• Master's in Computer Science or related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience 
• Hands-on experience with at least one programming language, such as Java, distributed architecture, etc. 
• Strong technical acumen which allows you to be responsible for the technical domain; identify strengths and weaknesses among languages; and select among available technology to implement and resolve for need 
• Familiarity with software design principles, algorithms, data structures, and multithreading concepts. 
• Experience delivering and operating large-scale internet-scale software systems 
• Strong verbal and written communication skills 
• Experience using any major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) for production applications 
• Solid understanding of modern build and deploy systems (Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.) 
• Self-starter and able to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment 
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills 
• Delivered solutions to business problems at the project level 
• Understand when and how to reward and recognize team members
