Hussman Institute has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Research Support position. The incumbent provides grant application and management support to facilitate research. Further the Manager, Research Support oversees laboratory facility and research operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with applicable regulations.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Oversees laboratory equipment purchase, use, maintenance, repair, and inventory.
  • Manages service contracts.
  • Trains laboratory staff on how to use laboratory equipment, laboratory techniques, and safety procedures.
  • Prepares laboratories for annual safety inspections.
  • Coordinates seminars and special activities in relation to research and laboratory safety.
  • Oversees the management of laboratory animals.
  • Collaborates with IT to maintain laboratory computers and servers running smoothly.
  • Assists with arrangement of laboratory guests, speakers, and recruitment visits.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Job Functions 

Job Summary (Purpose and Function):

The Manager, Research Support provides outreach, community engagement, enrollment, and retention research activities for the John P. Hussman Institute of Human Genetics (HIHG), the Dr. John T. Macdonald Department of Human Genetics (DHG) including the All of Us Research Program (AoURP). The incumbent will have experience in outreach, community engagement, enrollment and retention research retention activities, grant submissions, and research support.

Accountabilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):

  • Plans and manages all enrollment activities for the All of Us Research Program (AoURP).
  • Supervises Clinical Research Participant Specialist dedicated to enrollment activities.
  • Assists on planning and delivering outreach, community engagement, and retention research activities.
  • Maintains communication with other offices, departments, and institutions to coordinate program business and accomplish program objectives, to include interfacing with external organizations as appropriate to ensure cooperative efforts are enhanced and available resources are utilized.
  • Monitors and ensures good data acquisition and data management processes. Analysis and prepare participants enrollment reports/data in relation to communication efforts and in data aggregation for engagement efforts in precision medicine.
  • Collaborates in the development of new strategies to improve the AoURP outcomes.
  • Assist on the design, development, and implementation of staff training as needed.
  • Communicate with the PIs with questions or concerns regarding the research program.
  • Assists in publications and manuscript preparation including journal article submissions.
  • Assists in preparation of grant writing applications.
  • Monitors phlebotomy procedures are implemented and provided according to the University and Research Program protocols and procedures.
  • Assists on spot checks to monitor phlebotomy procedures.
  • Assist on the review of research documentation, policies, rules and regulations of the research program related to Adverse Events and phlebotomy procedures.

Phlebotomy certification preferred
