The Digital Principal Engineer role is a highly visible and hands-on software engineering position that plays a crucial role in shaping CVS Health's digital strategy for its customers. The primary focus of this role is to define and implement digital health solutions in CVS Health Pharmacy Rx Systems that effectively manage prescriptions and medications, thereby directly impacting patient lives. The Principal Engineer will help shape and direct our strategy and implementation of a modern application deployment of CVS Health Pharmacy RX platform. This Web Platform will be leveraged by hundreds of engineers across Pharmacy, Health Solutions, and used by millions of CVS Health customers. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing the platform engineering strategy, architecture, and roadmap while influencing, mentoring, and coaching engineers and engineering leaders across a wide diverse set of skillsets. The successful candidate will possess a passion for building highly scalable systems and will collaborate with various teams and skillsets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to the digital engineering team, driving technical excellence, establishing best practices, and ensuring the use of industry-standard methodologies and technologies.
  • Technology Evaluation: Research and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in the digital health space.
  • Software Development: Utilize advanced programming skills to design and implement complex features, optimize performance, and ensure code quality.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and solve complex technical problems that arise during the development process.
  • Technical Insights and Recommendations: Deliver technical insights and recommendations to drive informed decision-making, ensuring that technical solutions align with business goals.
  • Technology Selection and Integration: Provide recommendations on technology selection and integration, considering factors such as performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshooting and Guidance: Apply deep technical expertise to troubleshoot issues, provide guidance to the development team, and drive the resolution of technical challenges.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) designers, and software developers, to define technical requirements and create robust and scalable architectures that meet business objectives.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior engineers, helping them enhance their technical skills and grow professionally through knowledge-sharing activities, technical training, and fostering a culture of learning within the team.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in large-scale software development. With 2+ years of experience in a technical lead role.
  • 7+ years of experience with developing applications/web services and cloud-native apps using technologies like Java, Spring Boot, REST API, JPA, and other tech stacks (open-source and proprietary).
  • 5+ years of experience with agile development.
  • 5+ years of designing and developing highly scalable Microservices, Webservices, and Rest API’s
  • 5+ years of designing and developing in a Test-Driven Development environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with build and deploying services in CI/CD with using tools like GitHub, CircleCI, Harness, Jenkins, GitLab.
  • 3+ years of experience working with KAFKA DB, NoSQL DB & Cache Datastore DB
  • 3+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience working in cloud platforms like GCP, Azure, AWS, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in GraphQL.

In summary, this Digital Principal Engineer role requires a seasoned software engineer with extensive experience in large-scale software development, strong technical leadership skills, and expertise in technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, REST API, cloud platforms, and CI/CD. The ideal candidate will be innovative, possess problem-solving skills, and have a passion for delivering high-quality digital health solutions. Experience with GraphQL is considered a plus.

Education :

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$120,750.00 - $240,000.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
