The Barnett Institute for Chemical and Biological Analysis within the College of Science at Northeastern University invites applications for a newly created research-active position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor/Associate Teaching Professor/Full Teaching Professor. This position allows for passionate investigators to combine their scientific interests with a reduced teaching load to pursue research related to the mission of the Barnett Institute. This position will enjoy a full-time appointment within the College of Science’s Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, with a renewable, career-focused, non-tenure track opportunity attached to the Barnett Institute. This is a nine-month appointment with a two-course teaching load.

The Barnett Institute is a center of excellence in the development and application of technologies for biopharmaceutical characterization and proteomics and systems biology. With more than 50 scientists and an $8 million endowment, the Institute is recognized internationally as one of the premier centers for cutting-edge research and advanced training in analytical chemistry for biomedical applications. 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will conduct research at the intersection of biopharmaceutical characterization, proteomics, systems biology, and computational and data sciences. They will collaborate with colleagues to develop research relationships within the university and the outside community, lead writing collaborative grant proposals, contribute to research milestones, supervise deliverables, and craft progress reports. The candidate will also teach courses relevant to the research area of the Institute.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science, or field related to interdisciplinary applications of biopharmaceutical characterization, proteomics, systems biology, or computational sciences from an accredited institution by the appointment start date.

Research statement (no longer than 5 pages):

Please describe the focus of your research, including the questions you have identified, the funding you have received to support the work (if applicable), the results you have discovered, and the products of these efforts. Highlight any cross-disciplinary research efforts you have undertaken. Please also describe any research you have undertaken with students, with the external community, and/or with individuals from marginalized groups. Finally, please outline the research directions you foresee pursuing in the College of Science, any cross-disciplinary and collaborative aspects, and the strategies you will take to address each direction.

Teaching statement (1 page):

Please summarize your past instructional and mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, your plans/goals for teaching in the College of Science (including existing and proposed courses), and your strategies for teaching and mentoring a diverse cohort of undergraduate and graduate students.

Equity statement (1 page):

Please describe your past experience and activities, and/or your future plans, to advance equity, diversity, inclusion, justice, and belonging in your academic work. Your statement should demonstrate an understanding of the barriers facing marginalized communities in your field and be in alignment with Northeastern’s mission to reflect the diversity of the societies in which it maintains campuses and meet the educational needs and interests of its diverse population.
