What you'll do

The Head of Tax, reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, will be a key member of the Finance leadership team and Direct Global Tax leadership and initiatives for DocuSign. They will drive strategic business partnerships with stakeholder organizations such as Go-To-Market, Human Resources and Product Development, ensuring DocuSign’s tax planning process and operational rigor are world class. This leader oversees the Global Tax organization, directing all aspects of the domestic and international tax provisions, compliance and global indirect taxes. They will ensure accurate and timely reporting of all tax-related financial information in compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, they will design, develop and implement global tax strategies and policies aligned with business goals to optimize the company's overall tax position.

This is a people manager role reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer.

Responsibility

  • Develop and implement tax strategies aligned with business goals to optimize the company's overall tax position
  • Provide proactive advice on tax implications related to business initiatives, M&A activities, and other strategic decisions
  • Lead US and foreign jurisdiction tax audits and controversies, working closely with external auditors, consultants and tax authorities to resolve issues efficiently
  • Mitigate tax risks through thorough analysis and documentation of tax positions
  • Develop and maintain transfer pricing strategies and policies to ensure compliance with regulations and optimize the company's global tax position
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions
  • Act as a key point of contact for external tax advisors and regulatory authorities
  • Ensure all relevant global and domestic tax compliance, including BEAT, GILTI, FDII, FTC, Subpart F inclusions, etc.
  • Direct corporate tax research and modeling for tax planning strategies
  • Support acquisition due diligence, integration, and tax accounting
  • Lead all tax aspects of the Company’s global SOX program

Job Designation

Remote: Employee is not required to be in or near an office frequently and works from a designated remote work location for the majority of the time.

Positions at DocuSign are assigned a job designation of either In Office, Hybrid or Remote and are specific to the role/job. DocuSign reserves the right to change a position's job designation depending on business needs and as permitted by local law.

What you bring

Basic

  • Bachelor’s degree, with emphasis in Accounting
  • 12+ years of corporate tax experience
  • 8+ years of leadership experience within Corporate Accounting, including layered reporting structures (i.e., leader of leaders)

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Tax or Accounting and/or CPA
  • Located in San Francisco, CA
  • Experience leading global tax organizations within publicly traded, multinational companies
  • Prior leadership within Big-4 or similar global public accounting firms
  • Deep knowledge in corporate tax strategy, standards and governance
  • Proven leadership experience in training and developing successful teams; proactive leader and effective coach committed to the development and engagement of their team
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and process optimization
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships, a good listener with outstanding interpersonal influencing skills and abilities
  • Excellent analytical skills; detail-oriented with consultative approach to corporate tax strategy
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work independently while successfully delivering results
  • Excellent time and project management skills; able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously within an innovative, fast-paced business environment

Wage Transparency

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

California: $188,200 - $302,825 base salary

This role is also eligible for bonus, equity and benefits.
