NEXT Technology are looking for a Technical Trainer to join the Mainframe Academy team. This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to put their stamp on this new initiative and help bring the Academy to life! 

Salary £46,700-£53,900 (plus tradeable benefits)

About the Academy

At the heart of our systems lies the Mainframe, and we are looking for a skilled Technical Trainer to join the team and help take our Mainframe Academy Trainees from beginner to Mainframe Developer. 

Tutoring two cohorts of 8 students each year, the academy will focus on the fundamentals of Mainframe, using structured training, as well as applying new skills with exercises and projects. The aim is to develop the trainees to professional Mainframe Developers within 2 years, with year one focusing on dedicated training, and year two within a domain, where they will receive on the job training. 

About the Role

As a new initiative within Next Technology, you will have the ability to get involved with all aspects of the training requirements and assist in building a syllabus that works well for everyone involved, particularly those at beginner level with little or no coding experience. 

The role is suitable for someone that can design, develop and implement technical training programs that include JCL, COBOL, VSAM, DB2, CICS, Natural, Adabas, IBM MQ and REXX (this list is not exhaustive). 

You will help our trainees to learn a vast amount of technical detail to assist in their development by providing detailed technical training sessions, projects and assessments throughout their time in the Academy. All training will be linked to Next Technology ways of working.

You will also be required to work alongside the Training Coordinator, Domain Managers and key stakeholders to ensure the training is relevant and in keeping with Mainframe requirements. 

This is a Hybrid role based between our Leicestershire Head Office and your home location. You will be required to deliver face to face sessions in our dedicated training room, as well as virtual sessions via Google Meet. 

Essential Criteria 

  • Experience in JCL, COBOL, VSAM, DB2, CICS, Natural, Adabas, IBM MQ and REXX
  • Excellent communicator
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to adapt coaching style for target audience

Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience of :
  • Delivering technical training at a beginner level
  • Developing technical content at a beginner level
  • Delivering material both face-to-face and via remote sessions
  • Performance Management skills, including ability to understand performance and manage improvement
