Duties and Responsibilities
Loyola University Chicago, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Fine and Performing Arts seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as a full-time Lecturer in Visual Communication, beginning in Fall 2024. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts’ Fine Arts Division has 12 full-time faculty serving approximately 130 undergraduate art majors and is located on the university’s Lakeshore Campus. We seek a faculty member who is passionate about the field of graphic design and committed to excellence in teaching undergraduate students within a liberal arts context. The responsibilities of this position include teaching four undergraduate courses per semester in visual communication. The faculty member will teach various levels of undergraduate courses. We are particularly interested in candidates who have the ability to teach animation, color theory, and interactive design. The position also includes some service obligations, such as participating in critiques for Senior Capstone and attending departmental meetings.
QualificationsAn MFA or MDes in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, or other relevant field of study from an accredited college or university is required. Applicants should possess evidence of successful college-level teaching experience and a record of active professional practice. A candidate with at least two years of post-graduate college teaching experience and at least two years of professional experience is preferred.
Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially regarding socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Candidates must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic education.
