DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Legal Department is seeking a talented lawyer to fill the position of Associate Corporate Counsel to primarily support Amazon’s real estate, corporate, and payments matters. This role will negotiate and advise on various matters from standard commercial contracts, to complex, high-dollar value transactions and cutting-edge business initiatives; provide day-to-day corporate and business law counseling; administer and resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships.

The candidate will be expected to participate in other Amazon legal projects that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling regulatory matters. The successful candidate will be a fast learner who is detail-oriented and customer-obsessed, and will be able to work independently and comfortably while making decisions in ambiguous situations.

This lawyer will report to a long-tenured Amazonian who is a Senior Corporate Counsel and who is based in Tokyo, Japan. The manager reports directly to the Japan Vice President of Legal. This lawyer will also closely coordinate with other members of the Japan legal team, the global legal team and outside counsel. Occasional international and domestic travel will be required.

Compensation is based on experience and includes equity compensation in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

About the team

The successful candidate will work in the Japan legal department, which consists of more than 80 lawyers and legal professionals.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Tokyo, 13, JPN

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university or law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Japan, US or other common law jurisdiction.
  • At least 2 years' legal experience at a top international law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Bilingual in Japanese and English.
  • Strong legal and business judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and coordinate complex issues and projects with diverse levels of management and employees.
  • Strong interest in Amazon

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive experience and strong skills in drafting and negotiating contracts.
  • In-house experience at a technology company.
