Summary:

The Sr. Director Quality Improvement provides strategic direction and oversight of the enterprise Quality program for Children's Health System of Texas (CHST). The CHST quality program includes quality assurance, clinical performance improvement (quality improvement), and clinical effectiveness. Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to ensure the delivery of exceptional, reliable, evidence-based, equitable care across CHST and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Collaborates with clinical and physician leaders to integrate quality improvement methodology into service line and department quality programs. Working with system quality executive leadership, the incumbent coordinates the alignment of quality councils and reviews processes across CHST to ensure the delivery of high quality care and maintain protections and privileging of quality of care information. Oversees enterprise quality improvement efforts and ensures compliance with all performance improvement and quality assurance related regulatory standards and/or licensure requirements for CHST. Develops and implements strategies to embed quality improvement methodology to increase improvement capability across CHST. Reports to the Senior Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety and directs the operations of the system Quality department. This role also has matrix reporting to the Chief Quality Officer of CHST.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing the implementation of strategies aimed at promoting a culture of continuous improvement. Responsible for collaborating with leaders across CHST to ensure the alignment and connection of clinical performance improvement processes and utilization of sound improvement methodology to continuously improve patient outcomes and increase improvement capacity across the enterprise.
  • Lead and oversee the CHST clinical performance improvement program. This includes collaborating with campus executives to determine annual clinical performance improvement plans in alignment with The Joint Commission performance improvement standards. Responsible for the overall functioning and advancement/maturation of individual hospital quality programs including their committee structures, dashboards, and annual plans.
  • Oversees quality outcome data capture and trending for the enterprise and ensures the dissemination of the data and analysis to all necessary clinical leaders. Ensures the use of appropriate external databases (ex: PHIS, SPS, Configo, etc) to benchmark quality performance and drive the continuous quality improvement. Collaborates with physician and clinical leaders to identify organizational improvement opportunities and oversee and/or ensure support of initiatives as appropriate.
  • Responsible for remaining relevant on quality assurance best practices and quality improvement methodology to ensure the embedding into service line and facility quality programs. This includes maintaining a personal and organizational regional and national presence at quality related forums, conferences, and/or meetings.
  • Responsible for prioritizing and overseeing organizational participation in regional and national collaboratives such as Solutions for Patient Safety, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and the Children’s Hospital Association.
  • Leads the development and implementation of a clinical effectiveness program across the enterprise. This requires collaborating with physician leaders, nurses, informatics, and data analytics to develop and implement evidence based clinical pathways to decrease unwanted variation in practice.
  • Oversee the operations of the quality department including fiscal and human resources.
  • Responsible for collaborating with Health Equity leadership to ensure the tracking of health equity quality outcomes and identify improvement opportunities across CHST.
  • Responsible for presentations at quality and patient safety committee meetings and the routine preparation of quality reports for presentation to executive leaders and/or board members across the enterprise.
  • Participate in regulatory visits and the development of corrective action plan submissions (related to quality, performance improvement, and infection prevention) for The Joint Commission, CMS, Texas Department of Health and Human Services, FDA, and other accrediting bodies.

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

You may be required to float occasionally to other Children's Health locations including Dallas, Plano and THD Clinics. 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 10 years Working in quality and patient safety in an acute care setting Required
  • At least 7 years Clinical experience in a healthcare environment Required
  • At least 5 years' Experience in healthcare and/or clinical leadership Required
  • At least 5 years Quality/Process Improvement within the Health Care Industry Required
  • At least 5 years' Experience leading multidisciplinary (RN, MD, pharmacists, RT, etc.) improvement work Required

EDUCATION

  • Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience BSN Required
  • Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • License to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas Upon Hire Required
  • CPHQ 1 Year Required
