Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager - ( 230003AV )

Description

Strong communities don’t just happen—they are built by design. We are driving the future of Community Development. Our experts lead their fields, collaborating on projects that are as technically challenging as they are impactful, creative, and fulfilling. We’re a place where you can apply your passion— and find endless opportunities to help make communities of all types and sizes more resilient and livable.

Stantec’s Tallahassee office has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager. Tallahassee is located in the beautiful Red Hills region of North Florida, which the Nature Conservancy has called “one of America’s last great places.” As the capitol city of Florida and the home of two major universities, Tallahassee offers an affordable and highly livable community within a short distance of some of Florida’s most unspoiled coastline.

Alternatively, this role could be based out of Greater Jacksonville, Tampa, or Orlando with the expectation of the occasional commute to Tallahassee for meetings.

Your Opportunity

The role of the Senior Civil Engineer is to work independently and as a team member on projects of varying size and complexity. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will apply advanced knowledge and expertise gained from your past experience to new challenges. You will function as Project Manager in many instances, and in some cases as the Engineer-of-Record for projects managed by others. You will also direct the efforts of junior staff members as they execute project tasks under your guidance. Projects will range from engineering studies to full design and construction administration.

Key clients for our Tallahassee office include the City of Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, electrical power systems throughout north Florida, architecture firms, and others. Additionally, the Tallahassee office is one of Stantec’s key centers of expertise for federal projects, especially those serving the US Department of Defense. In this exciting role, you’ll experience a range of fascinating projects including site development, municipal utilities, parks and trails, and federal facilities. You’ll be surrounded by talented and experienced teammates with extensive experience in these diverse work areas.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of projects large and small, from moderate to high complexity.
  • Engage in the development of plans, specifications, cost estimates and design reports.
  • Evaluate work products and provide markups for junior engineers/designers.
  • Prepare and revise design documents in various civil phases including site plans, utility plans, grading plans, and details.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Make presentations in client project requirement meetings and design charrettes.
  • Develop and manage the project scope, budget, staffing plan, and schedule – or assist the Project Manager in these management tasks.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications with the help of administrative/clerical staff.
  • Participate in constructability reviews, quality control reviews, independent technical reviews, and value engineering workshops.
  • Assist with the development of proposals for new projects.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience as an Engineer-of-Record and/or Project Manager in any of a range of relevant civil sub-disciplines, such as site development, transportation, or utility engineering.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of civil construction means and methods, materials, and industry standards, to enable constructability review and competent interaction with contractors.
  • Effective communication and social skills, resulting in the ability to respectfully guide the work of others and foster high morale.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills.
  • Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
