Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity to join a global leader with the most complete portfolio of welding and cutting products in the industry. For more than 100 years, our customers have looked to us to provide innovative workflow solutions to enhance their productivity. The Senior Product Development Engineer conducts research and development programs designed to assure the Company’s competitive position, profitability, and safe product designs. Independently conducts research and development projects for new or improved products and processes. Provides technical assistance and coordinates research activities with other support functions such as production maintenance and sourcing. This position will report into the Senior Manager Research & Development in our Hanover, PA facility.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to work independently on the development of key new products and improved products.
  • Develops and manages project systems for short- and long-range research programs. Uses Stage Gate, Gantt Charts, Design of Experiments Methods, Project Database (DFN) or similar methods to manage and assure project completion dates are met.
  • Maintains complete and exhaustive records of formulas, process methods and product standards used in development
  • Maintains required records to support patent actions and assists in obtaining patents on inventions. Prepares and presents technical papers and reports as required.
  • Works closely with Sales/Marketing, Product Management, Manufacturing, Sourcing and other departments to provide advice and engineering services to meet the Company’s overall goals.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with Product Management of key accounts to keep abreast of industry trends, competitive activity and provide technical advice and assistance as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical/Welding Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in roles with increasing responsibility; experience in Filler Metal Development preferred
  • Working knowledge of business finance.
  • Clear understanding of the development-to-market process
  • Good communication skills, ability to work with cross functional teams
  • Ability to travel globally up to 20%
