Salary range: The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and/or step. The base pay range for this position is $175,000-$300,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan. Position description

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Department of Pediatrics (http://www-pediatrics.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Division of Endocrinology within the Department of Pediatrics at UC San Diego and Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego (RCHSD) (https://www.rchsd.org/) is currently seeking to fill the position of Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology.

UCSD is one of the leading biomedical research universities in the world with more than 80 faculty members in the National Academy of Sciences. Federal research expenditures are in the top 5 in the country and top 3 in NIH funding per faculty member. Co-located on the La Jolla Mesa with The Salk Institute, Scripps Research Institute, Sanford-Burnham-Prebys Medical Research Institute, La Jolla Institute of Immunology, the J. Craig Venter Institute, and the Sanford Stem Cell/Regenerative Medicine Consortium, UCSD provides an outstanding collaborative research environment that is home to over 500 biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Major initiatives on campus include UCSD Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, Genomic Medicine, Microbiome Sciences, Diabetes and Metabolism, Big Data Sciences, and Drug Discovery.

The Pediatric Endocrinology/Diabetes service at Rady Children’s averages 18,000 outpatient visits per year, including over 2,000 children with diabetes from San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties. Multidisciplinary Specialty clinics include: Turner syndrome, Disorders of Sexual Development, Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes, Prader-Willi syndrome, Lipid disorders, Post-Transplant Diabetes, Transgender, Thyroid Nodules, and Metabolic Bone Disease. The Pediatric Diabetes Research Center features a network of dedicated diabetes basic science investigators, San Diego’s only multidisciplinary clinical pediatric endocrinology group, and a growing portfolio of clinical trials.

The Department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated leadership qualities and a passion for outstanding care, a commitment to faculty development, education, and advancing research.

The Division Chief will oversee the management of the Division of Endocrinology to include direct oversight of faculty, and staff and will have direct accountability for the Division’s clinical service and operational performance. The successful candidate will also be expected to support the mission of delivering high-quality care, teaching, and scholarly activities while promoting an environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusivity among faculty, students, and staff.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent, or an MD/PhD in health-related fields.

Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California. Candidates must be Board-certified or Board-eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology.

Candidates must also have demonstrable leadership experience and substantial experience in leading a Pediatric division. Candidates must have a track record of research excellence manifested by grants and publications.
