Job Description

This posting will be used to obtain a pool of qualified candidates and applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. We are currently looking for candidates available for the spring 2024 semester, but as teaching needs arise, applications will be reviewed for future needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree and a minimum of 18 graduate hours in English. Excellent oral and written language skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. English or related field from a regionally accredited university. Evidence of teaching excellence. Experience teaching English Composition face-to-face and/or online. Experience with Learning Management Systems especially Blackboard.

APPOINTMENT DATE: January 2024

SALARY: per adjunct contract

RESPONSIBILITIES: To teach ENG 101/English Composition I and/or ENG 102/English Composition II. We are seeking candidates available in the Hays, KS area to teach face-to-face courses in addition to candidates outside the area able to teach online courses. Instructors must plan and prepare a course syllabus, teach all scheduled classes, and respond to and evaluate student work.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of English and Modern Languages at Fort Hays State University offers a Bachelor of Arts in English with three concentrations: Literature, Teaching, and Writing; a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in two concentrations: Spanish Education and Spanish for Specific Purposes; and a Master of Arts degree in English. The Department has been an integral part in the university’s international programs, offering our Composition sequence in cross-border programs in China for over fifteen years. We envision our graduate concentration as important training for similar careers in teaching academic writing internationally. In addition, the department offers courses in the general education program including the first-year composition sequence, interdisciplinary courses, and modern languages.
