The Assistant Director of Engineering, Safety and Security is responsible for supporting the Director of Engineering in maintaining the overall operation of the maintenance department at the hotel as well as in the daily operations of the Safety and Security Department. The Assistant Director of Engineering, Safety and Security must ensure the appearance and working order of the hotel meets the highest standards, including both the inside and outside of the building and the front and back of house. This person should be knowledgeable in HVAC, Refrigeration, and Electrical Engineering. This position will report directly to the Director of Engineering and will support a wide variety of areas of the hotel including but not limited to the following:

  • Strong technical skills in at least one of the following: Mechanical, HVAC-R or Electrical.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to delegate.
  • The ability to work in a high paced and rewarding environment.
  • The ability to multi-task large and small projects.
  • The ability to oversee, direct, coach and mentor colleagues in a constructive and positive environment to include payroll.
  • The ability to plan and forecast needs of the day as well as long term.
  • Patrol all areas of the property; secure rooms; assist guests with room access.
  • Conduct emergency response drills, investigations, interviews, and key control audit.
  • Assist owners/guests/colleagues during emergency situations. Respond to accidents, contact EMS or administer first aid/CPR as required.
  • Gather information and complete reports. Maintain confidentiality of reports/documents, release information to authorized individuals.
  • Assist management in training, motivating and coaching colleagues.
  • Serve as a role model, ambassador and first point of contact for the “Safety First, Wellbeing Always” hotel initiatives to include: Resolving safety hazard situations, maintaining Occupational Health and Safety standards/ plans, conducting and overseeing monthly physical hazard/safety inspections/ walkthroughs, meetings and trainings.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested.

The salary range for this position is $90, 000 - $115,300. This is the pay range for this position that Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors, such as experience and education.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
  • 3 years or more of progressive hotel or building management experience (typically with Hyatt)
  • Service oriented style with professional presentations skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Engineering/Facility Management degree preferred
  • Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, and effective in providing exceptional customer service
  • Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent guest service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with guests and employees one on one, and within small and large groups.
  • Ability to prepare, analyze and interpret documents.
  • Ability to prepare organized and thorough reports.
  • Ability to prepare and present information in an organized and clear manner.
  • Ability to identify and foresee concerns based on reviews of incidents and trends.
  • Ability to thoroughly investigate a variety of incident types.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to stay organized and focused on tasks and assignments.
  • Ability to remain calm and make reasonable decisions, including during high stress situations.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to understand and maintain knowledge of company and department rules, policies and procedures, city and state laws and safety regulations.
  • Must successfully complete company background screening process and reference check.
  • Current American Red Cross or Equivalent Adult First Aid/CPR Certification required.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance is a must.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
