Job Description Summary

This is a recruitment for a short-term/temporary position. This recruitment will be open until all positions are filled.

DEFINITIONThe Cultural and Performing Arts Center (CPAC) at Cuesta College invites you to apply for employment as a member of our technical team. Our primary goal is to create a safe and memorable experience for audience members, performers/presenters, and fellow technicians. All of our technicians are required to participate in training activities and to foster a positive learning environment for our students. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe CPAC Technician I, II, III, and IV will work under the supervision of the acting CPAC Facilitator, Technical Director or CPAC Technical Coordinator to set up and operate theatrical equipment for live performances and presentations. Technicians should have a sufficient knowledge of theatrical systems and front-of-house / back-of-house etiquette.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSLevel I , II, III, and IV

• Under supervision, able to safely operate most theatrical systems to include: counterweight fly, fire safety, lighting, effects, sound, projection, or front of house;
• Strive to acquire working knowledge of all theatrical systems and equipment used in the CPAC;
• Attend training workshops and maintenance calls;
• Create an atmosphere of mutual trust and support;
• Work and communicate effectively with students of all skill levels, professional staff, and Cuesta College faculty and administrators;
• Exhibit a helpful attitude toward all students, staff, and community members; and
• Perform other related duties as required.

Additional Functions of Level II, III, and IV

• Ability to safely operate at least one system without supervision.

Additional Functions of Level III, and IV

• Lead small crews to accomplish production tasks;

Additional Functions of Level IV

• Safely operate all of the theatrical systems to include: counterweight fly, fire safety, lighting, effects, sound, projection, and front of house;
• Ability to lead and instruct others in the safe operation of most theatrical systems;
• Lead multiple crews to accomplish production tasks.

QUALIFICATIONSLevel I , II, III, and IV

• Entry-level knowledge and understanding of theatrical equipment used for live performances and presentations;
• Ability to follow instruction and to work well with others;
• Strong oral communication skills;
• Ability to meet stringent deadlines and work at irregular hours; and
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and community members.

Additional Qualifications of Level II, III, and IV

• Intermediate-level knowledge and understanding of theatrical equipment used for live performances and presentations;

Additional Qualifications of Level III, and IV

• Advanced-level knowledge and understanding of theatrical equipment used for live performances and presentations;

Additional Qualifications of Level IV

• Expert level knowledge and understanding in at least one theatrical system;
• Ability to lead multiple crews to complete tasks.

Additional Information

This is a short-term/temporary position. Students currently enrolled at Cuesta College will be given priority.
