The Position:
Applications are now being accepted for a 10-month position of Assistant Professor, Nursing at San Diego City College.
One of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and vocational offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor. In addition, applicants to this recruitment may be used to fill identical vacancies that may occur during the academic year.
Major Responsibilities:
Under direction, plan, organize, and teach assigned courses in an instructional field or discipline according to the approved course outlines, education code requirements, and faculty contract provisions; provide student feedback and guidance; evaluate students’ performance; and perform assigned duties. Must meet the California Board of Registered Nursing Regulations.
Qualifications:
Master’s in nursing OR Bachelor’s in nursing AND Master’s in health education or health science OR the equivalent OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher.
As specified in California Code of Regulations (CCRs) Section 1425©(2), “Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by: (A) One (1) year’s continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as registered nurse area; or (B) one (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent.”
Desired Qualifications:
The Nursing Faculty must have:
1. A current and active Registered Nursing License issued by the Board of Registered Nursing by the state of California.
2. Current Malpractice Insurance, current CPR/BLS certificate, Immunizations, current background check and drug screening, current TB test (Quantiferon Gold), and COVID-19 vaccine with one (1) per the clinical facility requirements.
3. Must create a San Diego City College Nursing and Allied Health Consortium Education Account through AmericanData Bank /Complio , once hired (clinical partners’ requirements).
4. A Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university that includes courses work in nursing, education, or administration.
5. At least one-year experience as a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care or equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
6. According to California Board of Registered Nursing’s California Code of Regulations (CCRs) 1420 defined “Clinically competent” as the nursing program faculty member possesses and exercises the degree of learning, skill, care and experience ordinarily possessed and exercised by staff level registered nurses of the nursing area to which the faculty member is assigned.
7. Per the California Board of Registered Nursing’s 16 CCR 1425 states that Nursing Faculty must provide direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by:

1. Completion of at least one year’s experience teaching courses related to nursing OR of a course that included practice in teaching nursing.
Licenses:
Possession of a current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California, CPR certificate, and Malpractice insurance certificate.
Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A – Class 6, Step C ($6,301.36 – $8,490.72) per month based on the current AFT – College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Monthly Salary Schedule.
Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.
The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 – Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
