Position Description
TITLE: Bus Driver REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
CLASSIFICATION: Classified WORK YEAR: School Year
BOARD APPROVAL: SALARY: Classified Salary Schedule
Basic Function: Under general supervision, to operate a school bus or transportation vehicle over designated routes within an established time schedule; to transport students to and from school and on special event and athletic event trips; to perform daily inspections of a bus or transportation equipment; and to do other related work as required. This position is evaluated by the Transportation Supervisor.

Education and/or Experience
One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Possession of a valid Class A or B with endorsement, California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License; Possession of a School Bus Driver’s Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol, including passage of a first aid examination, Medical Examiners Certificate (DL-51, F.A.A. or F.H.A.). Insurability by the District’s liability insurance carrier. Participation in the district’s federally mandated drug and alcohol testing program.

Sufficient mobility to climb in and out of school buses and emergency exits and to maneuver students into and out of buses.
