About the Employer The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District (FUESD) serves a preschool through eighth grade student population at nine school sites, including two schools located on the United States Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton. Job Summary Job Summary Under general supervision, to perform gardening and varied grounds maintenance work on school grounds; to plant, cultivate and maintain lawns, trees, fields, shrubs and landscaped grounds of schools and District offices; to make routine repairs to sprinkler systems; to maintain, cultivate and repair athletic fields; and to do related work as required.
Job Description / Essential Elements:
JD 4200.1 GROUNDSKEEPER I Definition Under general supervision, to perform gardening and varied grounds maintenance work on school grounds; to plant, cultivate and maintain lawns, trees, fields, shrubs and landscaped grounds of schools and District offices; to mike routine repairs to sprinkler systems; to maintain, cultivate and repair athletic fields; and to do related work as required. Responsible to Supervisor of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation Examples of Duties 1. Plants, water, trims, fertilizes, weeds, sprays and cultivates trees, plants, shrubs, lawns, fields and flowers. 2. Maintains and services sprinkler systems. 3. Replaces sprinkler heads. 4. Keeps hoses, supplies, tools and equipment in proper condition and repair. 5. Assists in maintaining tools and equipment in proper condition. 6. Operates small and medium-sized trucks, power sprayers, edgers, large and small mowers, and hand and power saws in the performance of work. 7. Aides in keeping assigned areas free from posts and plant diseases. 8. Cleans walks, fields and other facilities. 9. Trims trees, hedges and shrubs. 10. Carries, lifts and moves heavy loads. 11. Assists in preparing and treating soil for planting. 12. Rakes leaves and hoes weeds. Page 1 of 3 JD 4200.1 1. Digs ditches by hand and with power equipment. 2. Performs ground maintenance duties including, laying and repairing sprinkler pipe. 3. Requisitions materials and equipment to maintain stock levels. 4. Performs other duties as may be assigned. Qualifications Guide Knowledge of: 1. Basic methods, materials, tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance and gardening work. 2. Sweeping, raking and other cleaning procedures. 3. General safety procedures related to grounds maintenance. 4. Hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance work and field preparation. Ability to: 1. Learn the more common plant diseases and insect pests and approved methods and materials used in controlling and eradicating them. 2. Use various gardening and grounds maintenance tools and power equipment safely and efficiently. 3. Perform heavy physical labor. 4. Work with minimum supervision. 5. Understand and carry out oral and written instruction. 6. Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Physical Good physical condition and fitness. License Possession of a valid California driver's license and the ability to qualify for District vehicle insurance coverage. REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATE: Valid California Driver's License and a current H-6 (DMV printout dated within the past 90 days)
