Description

The Electronic Resources Librarian is part of the Technical Services Division of the Tulane University Libraries and is responsible for activities associated with access and management of the libraries’ e-resources. The incumbent collaborates closely with acquisitions and other ERM staff to ensure seamless access to online resources. The position is responsive to all TUL librarians and staff to ensure and promote the discovery of the libraries’ electronic resources. The incumbent is responsible for authentication and troubleshooting resources with vendors and TU Information Technology. The incumbent prepares procedures and guidelines for e-resource management and provides leadership in developing, delivering, and assessing collections of electronic resources and investigates future directions and developments in ERM. The Electronic Resources Librarian reports to the Head, Acquisitions and Electronic Resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for access and management of e-resources in Alma. Management includes setting up, testing and troubleshooting OpenAthens and EZproxy links. Sets up and manages e-resource trials using Alma. Assists with communicating and acquiring e-resources. Develops and implements policies and procedures related to workflow in Alma and serves as the library’s expert on Alma functionality related to e-resources including licensing. Provides leadership in developing, delivering, and assessing collections of electronic resources and investigates future directions and developments in ERM. Disseminates information about electronic resources to appropriate parties.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science; a combination of relevant degrees and related experience will be given equal consideration.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY: 

1. Knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies related to electronic resources and library services

2. Knowledge of core concepts for acquiring, receiving, licensing, processing, and maintaining e-resources

3. Strong verbal and written communication skills

4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and organizational abilities

5. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment in a rapidly changing and culturally diverse environment.

6. Commitment to continued personal and professional development.

7. Commitment to fostering a more diverse and equitable working environment

8. Ability to meet the Core Technology Competencies for Howard-Tilton Memorial Library Employees

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience working with electronic resources in an academic library.

2. Experience with Ex Libris Alma/Primo.

3. Knowledge and/or experience with electronic resource tools, standards, and initiatives, such as OpenURL, KBART, SUSHI, and COUNTER

4. Experience with authentication systems such as OpenAthens and EZProxy.

5. Knowledge of current metadata and cataloging standards

6. Experience with bulk editing software such as MARCEdit.

7. Knowledge of XML and metadata standards
