Tulane University’s Department of River-Coastal Science and Engineering (RCSE) invites applications to fill a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor position for Fall 2024. This hire is part of the next phase of growth in a highly innovative department at Tulane formed in 2017 that focuses on climate and water resources challenges in the river-delta-coastal continuum and is truly transdisciplinary, combining elements of civil and environmental engineering, hydrology, geosciences, and ecological sciences. The goal of our expanding faculty group is to conduct interdisciplinary research and to develop innovative approaches to educate the next generation to tackle complex issues associated with a changing global climate and human interactions in the river-to-ocean realm. RCSE is an internationally diverse faculty, located in a diverse city (New Orleans), who are actively involved in research initiatives focused on diversifying the expert pool in our disciplines.

RCSE is seeking applications from candidates with strong interest and demonstrated knowledge of convergence research in water science and engineering. Fields of interest include but are not limited to (1) flood risk modelling, management, and decision-making processes, (2) compound flooding and urban hydrology, (3) river and/or coastal hydraulic structures design, and (4) the engineering and ecology of river or coastal restoration and rehabilitation.
A doctoral degree in engineering or a relevant science field is required, and post-doctoral experience is preferred.
Applicants will be expected to develop an innovative research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialization, and conduct service toward the mission of the department and university. In addition, successful applicants will become part of a faculty team that will be designing and implementing innovative undergraduate and graduate degree programs and developing water and climate-related research initiatives across Tulane’s schools.
