The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park location in the Corporate Finance Division.

What You’ll Work On

Primary Job Function:

Manage and coordinate all aspects of the annual reports, the sales and use tax reconciliations including all related journal entries, and the trend analysis for sales and use tax. Oversee and field questions related to the Form 1099 process. Perform all requirements to complete the Form 1042 tax compliance process. Fulfill any other tax project as needed.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the CT group and be a liaison to ensure all annual reports for all Abbott entities across all US states are in good standing. This work will entail filling out many different forms, seeking data from across all business units and sometimes seeking authorizing signatures from management. Ensure the SharePoint calendar is updated and accurate.
  • Work with the various plant controllers to request and receive all information required to analyze use tax on purchases, samples, and other taxable items together with payments made with the tax returns and determine what is the necessary use tax accrual.
  • Perform all necessary analyzes and understand our sales tax and use tax accounts. Discuss with management and determine if there are any issues. Work with contacts across business units to resolve reconciling items. Work with contacts at Vertex and GT to resolve any issues regarding reconciling items. 
  • Perform the trend analysis on a periodic basis to ensure there are no issues with sales and use tax.
  • Receive the 1099 disk from the IRS, convert it to a readable file and forward to our disbursements group. Manage and resolve all notices from the IRS related to 1099 issues. Respond to all questions raised regarding the 1099 process.
  • Perform all tasks required to complete the 1042 tax compliance process. This includes requesting and reviewing all foreign payment reports, requesting all data related to royalty, intercompany interest payments, and payments to officers and other foreign individuals. Determine which transactions are taxable on form 1042-S, ensure all necessary W-8Ben tax forms are on file. Summarize all work and present to management. Fill out all tax forms 1042-S, 1042 and 1042-T and file timely with the IRS.
  • Work on any other tax project, in the capacity of a senior tax analyst and as needed.
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.

Position Accountability / Scope:

Analyst needs to have a thorough knowledge of the sales and use tax. They need to be able to work independent of the manager so that manager is consulted only when issues arise outside of the scope of the analyst's ability. They must be able to work with minimum supervision and be able to make decisions related to their core job responsibilities. The analyst needs to be able to manage and coordinate with key internal and external contacts. Lastly, very importantly – the analyst must be able to work as a team member, sharing ideas and collaborating with others in the team. 

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • B.S. in Accounting, or similar area. B.S plus experience also acceptable. 
  • CPA a plus, but not required.

Minimum Experience / Training Required:

  • Five years in sales and use tax a must. 
  • Excellent skills in organization, planning and execution a must. 
  • Above average analytical skills and attention to detail. 
  • Interpersonal skills, ability to work under tight deadlines, and problem solving also required. 
  • Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel, required. Alteryx knowledge a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills required to work with outside providers (ie. CT, Vertex, GT).

$80,700.00 – $161,300.00
