Primary Objective

• The primary function of the Finance Director is to partner with the Country GM and other division leaders to evaluate and support the implementation of business strategies to grow Japan’s sales and profit as well as provide strategic vision and focus related to financial issues in Japan.
• Specific areas of responsibility include the development and maintenance of planning and budgeting systems, preparing regional submissions for planning purposes, analysis, the preparation of financial and management reports and the presentation of findings and specific recommendations to senior management. The Finance Director will also be responsible for driving profit maximization initiatives and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the financials and maintaining effective internal controls.

Core Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible for owning all processes and procedures that drive the financial projections and management analysis for Japan, leading financial reporting, budget preparation, variance analysis and budget updates.
• Must assure adequate and appropriate financial controls are in place and executed.
• Assist the GM in making sound financial decisions, by providing accurate and timely financial analysis.
• Responsible for strategic financial decision-making that will have long-term impact on the business.
• Streamlines processes to provide timely and meaningful financial information to the Japan General Manager and other Division executives.
• Partner with General Manager, Sales, Marketing, Commercial Excellence Director and other members of the leadership team to devise sound business decisions.
• Responsible for assuring that Division and Corporate accounting and financial policies, procedures and practices are adhered to during the course of operations.
• Coordinate and present accurate and timely fact-based analysis supporting management’s decisions.
• Synchronize the financial information flow into clear and concise value added analysis.
• Develop and submit well-prepared and financial Plans (LBE’s)
• Effectively manages communication with local stake holders to ensure alignment with Division and Corporate expectations.
• Build a strong finance team, develop and coach subordinates in their areas of responsibilities. Review the country submissions of Plan, update, LBE and create a consolidated country submission.
• Month-end close and reporting to APAC (variance analysis and commentaries, etc.)
• Submit regular report for management to indicate the financial performance and provide strategic advisory to address dynamic business situation.
• Drive Profit maximization initiatives and ensure the accuracy and reliability of the financials.
• Drive for continuous improvement, facilitate and drive necessary changes to existing processes and analysis, encourage team to generate ideas and drive change.

Required

• A strong background in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. MBA or CA/CPA is a plus.
• Position requires a results/profit-oriented individual with strong managerial background in finance.
• 10+ years of progressive financial experience.
• 8+ years of leadership and management of people, including direct reports and cross-functional teams.
• 5+ years of experience supporting Commercial groups.
• Fluent in Japanese and English
• Demonstrated initiative, analytical thinking, critical-thinking, problem-solving skills, strong communication, as well as the ability to operate independently with broad scope of responsibility under minimal supervision and under challenging time constraints.
