Job Description

What is the Opportunity?

The Managing Director & Head of Global Liquid Asset Portfolio Management is a senior member of the Corporate Treasury Markets’ team. With direct reports managing and executing portfolios across the US, Caribbean, Channel Islands and Canada, the candidate will have $85Bn of assets under management in eleven legal jurisdictions. Residing in Toronto, our new partner will ensure we optimize Capital, Liquidity, Tax, and Enterprise balance sheet value while managing within constraints set forth by Risk, Financial Controls, and Corporate Treasury Enterprise Liquidity Management.

What will you do?

  • Oversee a team of traders and ensure compliance with all RBC policies related to the portfolios
  • Manage the US CMO books across various entities, creating hedge accounting programs and executing linear and non linear hedge structures
  • Manage the NII/OI stream related to HTC, HTCS, and FVTPL transits relative to liquid asset benchmarks
  • Manage street relationships (DCM, syndication, trading & sales)
  • Work with the Markets’ data analytics and reporting team to tell the story of the portfolio, work on the ideal portfolio given the environmental binding constraints, and build real life limitations into ideal model portfolios
  • Work with our Debt Capital Markets’ team to support RBC’s clients who are issuing debt that falls into our milieu
  • Work with our Accounting Groups to ensure appropriate Hedge Accounting Structures and Controls are in place to protect the timing recognition of bank earnings
  • Work with our various Risk Teams to ensure sufficient limits including (but not limited to) Single Name Exposure, Counterparty Credit, Key Rate Duration etc
  • Work with our Product Control and Performance Management team to have reporting of the portfolio performance relative to the benchmark accurately reflected

What do you need to succeed?

Must haves:

  • 5+ years of People Management in a Front Office role
  • 12+ years of trading/portfolio management at an institutional level –
  • Extensive experience with CMOs – specifically understanding of Yieldbook models, NII implications of paydows, valuations, and linear/non linear hedging strategies
  • Familiar with Sovereign, CMB/NHA, Covered Bonds, SSAs, and ABS
  • 10+ years of trading derivatives (rates + cross currency)
  • Extensive deep relationships with participants on Bay/Wall/Lombard Streets
  • Knowledge of LCR, bank funding, and deposit modelling
  • Familiarity with management and legal entity accounting

Nice to haves

  • IFRS and US GAAP Accounting knowledge
  • Familiarity with Volcker, Reg W, and broader Bank Compliance
  • Performance Management and Management Accounting experience
  • A passion for training junior staff and building knowledge across disciplines in the world of Corporate Treasury
