Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of External Research, the External Data Support Strategist will work with the External Research Team and its external partners, supporting university research, community based organizations, and cultural institutions. The External Data Support Strategist will also provide administrative support to the External Research Office and its external partners. This role serves two main functions: overseeing the provision of CPS data for external research, and providing guidance and support to community-based organizations and other external partners in their use of CPS data across research project portfolios.

This is a part-time/temporary position that will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 10 hours per week for an anticipated period of 5 months beginning September 2023 and ending January 2024, with the potential for extension. Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position.

The hourly rate for this role is $30.

The External Data Support Strategist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

• Communicating and coordinating with external data request submitters and community based organizations.
• Manages direct access to CPS data systems to fulfill external data requests by developing, validating and executing complex SQL programs in SAS
• Navigates internal CPS systems for requesting data outside the permission structure of the data liaison.
• Delivers data and reports to external researchers with documentation and context for understanding and interpreting data.
• Other CPS duties as assigned, including assisting with quick-turnaround internal data requests, ad hoc project support and administrative needs as they arise.

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Research Fellow must possess the following qualifications:

Education Required:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution required
• Master’s degree preferred

Experience Required:

• Minimum of five (5) years of data analysis or research experience
• Minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience with statistical software packages (SAS, R, Python) and data management systems (Data Warehouses)
• Experience working with school district processes and grant-reporting preferred

• Ability to liaise effectively between district leadership and research institutions

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

• Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions.
• Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters. Unvaccinated staff with an approved exemption must submit to weekly testing.
