Student Assistant Specialist, The Institute on Race, Power, and Political Economy

Responsibilities:

The Institute on Race Power and Political Economy, the institute, advances research to understand structural inequalities and works to identify transformational ways to promote equity. As a premier cross-disciplinary hub, the Institute draws on faculty across The New School in New York City, which has long fostered innovative thinking about power, structure, design, politics, economics, and society. The Institute engages researchers and practitioners, including community and business leaders, policymakers, philanthropists and journalists, across the nation and around the world. Under the direction of the Strategic Engagement Lead, the Student Assistant Specialist(s) will provide general administrative and research support to the Institute team. The Institute is interested in hiring up to 6 students with a background in working in an office support role with an interest in promoting equity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration

  • Respond to inquiries via email directed to the Institute team and provide guidance as directed
  • Provide assistance with managing calendars; send email reminders of scheduled meetings, and reschedule or cancel meetings in a timely manner
  • Attend occasional meetings and record minutes
  • Provide general assistance with special projects as they arise

Project Management

  • Assist with managing projects as assigned (which may include review of reporting papers, articles, other publications, films, media pieces, white papers, op-eds, blog posts, talks, artistic creations, and other forms of media, scholarship and creative practice)

WORK MODE

This will be a hybrid position until our office space is functional, January 2024

Hybrid/Remote – Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions.

HOURLY RATE

$21.00 per hour

Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled at The New School as a Graduate student
  • Able to prioritize, problem-solve, manage diverse activities, and meet deadlines autonomously
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with experience in external communication
  • Ability to communicate to an executive, highly experienced professionals from a wide range of industries, roles, backgrounds, cultures and time zones
  • Highly organized, self-sufficient and detail-oriented
  • Proficient with MS Office and Google Apps

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Administrative/office support experience
