Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:
Position Summary:
Under general supervision, the Molecular Supervisor will assist with laboratory operations policy development, quality control measures to ensure results' accuracy and reliability, and personnel resourcing. Responsibilities will also include team management, training, coordinating vendor activities, regulatory inspection readiness and promoting a safe work environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages and coordinates the procurement of Clinical Laboratory supplies, equipment
- Monitors standing orders, negotiates supply contracts, continually evaluates pricing, and terminates agreements with vendors
- Assists in developing, evaluating, and implementing new procedures and protocols
- Evaluates employees’ work performance, provides orientation and training
- Ensures all instrument maintenance is performed and documented; administers all established quality control procedures and troubleshoots instruments effectively when appropriate
- Maintains medical laboratory supplies inventory, determines inventory level, anticipates needed supplies
- Initiates, designs, and completes special projects, process improvements,, or new method implementation in the Clinical Laboratory
- Maintains laboratory productivity, monitors workload, and ensures all workflow processes are completed within acceptable time frames.
- Assists in the review, interpretation, and reporting of test results
- Ensures that safety protocols are followed in all aspects of the daily activities and any potential safety hazards are addressed and corrected immediately
- Enforces universal precautions and use of personal protective equipment for laboratory personnel
- Develops and follows continuing education program for Clinical Laboratory employees as required by CAP and State clinical regulatory guidelines
- Maintains departmental quality assurance and quality control programs, taking corrective action when indicated
- Prepares new SOPs, reviews, and updates existing procedures as necessary for compliance
- Prepares laboratory for CAP, CLIA, and State agencies inspections and provides reports as needed
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- B.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science
- (Preferred: M.S. degree)
- 5+ years of clinical laboratory experience with at least four (4) years’ experience in the molecular discipline
- 1+ year of supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership role
Licensure and Certifications:
- Preferred: Certified as Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Molecular Biology, by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) OR equivalent certification

- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated leadership ability amongst diverse groups
- Demonstrate a reliable professional and positive attitude that promotes teamwork
- Expert knowledge of molecular techniques, equipment, and methods
- Strong analytical thinking and time management skills
- Ability to coordinate and effectively represent the company to vendor representatives
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to collect and analyze data using graphs, tables, charts, and mathematical calculations
- Familiar with informatics and data workflows; a demonstrated ability to work with IT and other technical personnel
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and dynamic priorities/deadlines
- Experienced with clinical lab regulations and audits (CLIA, CAP, ISO, NY State) and GDP policies
- Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Excel, Outlook, and Word
