Position Summary
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis anticipates hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Statistics and Data Science to begin in the Spring Semester of 2024. Applications are invited from candidates with a PhD in all areas of Mathematical Sciences that are related to Data Science in general and Statistical Learning and Statistical Machine Learning in particular. Candidates with research interests in the analysis of complex, dependent high dimensional data and the use of graph theory and combinatorics for high dimensional statistical graphical networks, foundational research in classification, clustering, and dimension reduction of big data and those with research interests at the intersection of statistics, graph theory, combinatorics, and applied mathematics with a focus on data science are especially welcomed to apply. Candidates are expected to have a proven record of collaborative research, strong communications skills, and will be expected to seek external funding. The Department has a strong PhD program in Statistics, Graph Theory, Combinatorics, and Applied Mathematics, with very active research collaborations with other units within and outside the University. The position comes with an offer of very competitive salary.
The successful candidate will typically teach two courses per semester in subjects related to data science or related field. The candidate will also be expected to conduct collaborative research in the projects related to data science and big data modeling and analysis.
