Assistant Director of Health Promotion

Summary

The Assistant Director of Health Promotion is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. The Assistant Director of Health Promotion resides within the Well for Health Promotion, and reports to the Director of Public Health Initiatives and Assessment. The individual in this position is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive health promotion initiatives on a variety of topics including alcohol and other drugs, stress management, sleep hygiene, and sexual health. The Assistant Director of Health Promotion oversees initiatives that include, but are not limited to knowledge and skills acquisition workshops, community engagement, social marketing and communication, and a variety of other evidence informed interventions. 

The Assistant Director of Health Promotion supervises health promotion specialists and oversees the peer health educators reporting to The Well for Health Promotion. The individual in this position co-chairs Campus Health committees and sits on a variety of campus-wide committees. The Assistant Director of Health Promotion also assists the Director with a variety of tasks including budgeting, hiring and onboarding, and staff training and supervision.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of current and emerging college health issues, environmental management/prevention strategies, health behavior change theories and ecological framework, and evidence‐based practice.
  • Oral and written communication skills that can contribute to effective collaboration with students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Ability to stay current on developments in the field of public health, health promotion, peer health education, and college health.
  • High level of organizational skills and proven record of delivering quality results in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to strategically and creatively manage a wide range of projects, and to work quickly and effectively on deadline projects.
  • Ability to work successfully with a diverse community and provide services from a non‐judgmental perspective.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with regulation and legal requirements.
  • Skills in providing excellent health education and customer service including maintaining confidentiality and being reliably available to students.
  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Masters’ Degree in Health Promotion, Health Education, Public Health, Community Health Education, School Health, Higher Education, Health Communication, or related field. 
  • 3 years’ experience in a health promotion/public health setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years’ experience in a college health setting
  • CHES or CPH Certified
  • Experience advising a peer health education group

This position is a exempt, salaried position assigned to pay grade 25.
