Join our System Operational Excellence Office as an Operational Excellence Expert and lead initiatives that drive process improvement, standardization, and innovation across the health system. This role offers the opportunity to develop and deploy Lean principles and tools, fostering a culture of continuous improvement aligned with IU Health’s strategic goals in quality, safety, and financial performance.

About The Role

The Operational Excellence Expert champions the development of a system-wide culture of operational excellence by leading high-impact process improvement projects, facilitating training, and coaching deployment teams. You will support the standardization, spread, and innovation of Lean methodologies, ensuring projects are delivered on time and in alignment with organizational strategies. Acting as a mentor, you will identify knowledge gaps and tailor training programs to build lean application mastery among leaders and teams.

Your proactive approach will help accelerate the application of Lean principles and methods throughout IU Health, contributing to safer, more efficient, and higher-quality healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate high-impact process improvement projects utilizing Lean principles, methods, and tools.
  • Develop and deliver tailored training, coaching, and mentorship programs to build lean capabilities across the organization.
  • Support system-wide standardization, spreading, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize healthcare operations.
  • Provide comprehensive project management support to ensure timely completion of strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
  • Identify knowledge and skills gaps within deployment teams, and develop targeted training and coaching strategies.
  • Act as a change management partner, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and high reliability.
  • Support deployment teams and leaders in applying Lean tools to improve patient safety, quality, and financial outcomes.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on project progress and impact, ensuring alignment with strategic imperatives.
  • Collaborate with Operational Excellence Directors and other stakeholders to embed Lean into daily operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in process improvement, operational excellence, or related fields.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading improvement projects in healthcare or complex organizations.
  • 2-3 years of experience working within a matrix organization.
  • Strong process improvement and change management experience.
  • Proven project management skills, with a track record of delivering strategic initiatives.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and communication skills, with the ability to develop tailored training programs.
