Project Summary:

The Rapid Response Activity is anticipated to be a two-year project that seeks to improve stability in conflict affected areas, particularly in the northern West Bank. It aims to alleviate grievances, to strengthen communities’ abilities to withstand shocks and stressors, and to provide opportunities for youth impacted by violence and conflict. Managed under the GISR MENA mechanism, the activity will operate to respond to immediate and emergent needs, to improve short-term stability in specific geographic areas that have recently emerged as flashpoints.

Position Summary:

The Research Assistant (RA) will support program’s capacity to prioritize programming that responds to strategic needs and measure public attitudes and opinions before and after interventions. The RA may also contribute to designing questionnaires/surveys, conducting interviews, and drafting sections of activity reports/documents. In addition, the RA also may contribute to ongoing context monitoring and drafting atmospherics reports in areas where activities are taking place. This position will report to the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Manager and is based in Ramallah.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall research, operational, administrative, and logistical support to the MEL team and other team members as needed.
  • Perform related duties to support the MEL team during site visits, as required and assigned.
  • Participate in data collection planning and support in-person data collection efforts, including taking extensive notes during primary data collection and/or conducting key informant interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Support staff to ensure that data collection instruments are translated and finalized.
  • Contact and schedule interviews with key stakeholders and program beneficiaries, including tracking interview lists.
  • Conduct problem-solving of any logistical challenges that arise.
  • Accompany data collection teams in the field and monitor and oversee the data collection efforts.
  • Coordinate with relevant team members, such as MEL team and/or Program Development Officer, regular check-ins.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, international development, statistics, economics, or related field is required. 
  • Minimum three years of experience in data collection and/or research required.
  • Experience with community resilience/stabilization programming in conflict environments with USAID preferred.
  • Strong adaptability, organizational, time management, qualitative analytical, problem-solving, service-oriented, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively with professionals required.
  • Ability to travel to and within Nablus, Jenin, or other activity sites is preferred. 
  • Oral and written proficiency in English and Arabic required.
