The College of Professional Studies (CPS) at Northeastern University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track [Assistant/Associate/Full Professor] position in the Master of Science in Regulatory Affairs program. The selected Faculty member will be required to teach on-campus graduate-level courses for the program at Northeastern University’s Toronto Regional Campus. Instructional areas include, but are not limited to, new pharmaceutical, biologic, and medical device product development, regulatory aspects of biomedical product commercialization, including clinical trial design, project management, law, and intellectual property. For a full list of current courses, click on the “curriculum tab” of the following link:

About the Opportunity:

Faculty members teach in an online and hybrid environment with a diverse student body. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator. Experience teaching at the master’s level, teaching and developing on ground and online courses, and proven success in working with international students are desired attributes.

The successful candidate will also have the following qualifications and characteristics:

  • Minimum qualification: JD, MD, PhD in a science-related field, or similar degree, in addition to at least five years of related biomedical industry or compliance experience. A history of successful teaching at the graduate level is strongly preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level
  • Candidates must commit to teaching on campus in Toronto at least one night per week for the entirety of a 6 or 12 week-term. Additional teaching time options may be available.
  • Experience mentoring students
  • Canadian work authorization required.

The position is a full-time, open rank, non-tenure track, renewable appointment located in Toronto

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

This full-time faculty member is expected to bring her/his intellectual and creative capacity to bear in advancement of the program, seeking to serve students by participating in a range of teaching and non-teaching activities that support the advancement of the program. S/he will teach a full teaching load spread throughout the year and will work with the program office on administrative issues and programmatic projects.

Teaching & Curricular Oversight (60% of time)

  • Course instruction will focus on core courses, such as Safety Sciences, Legal Issues, Regulatory Strategy, as well as in specializations including biopharmaceutical, clinical research, medical device, nonclinical biomedical product regulation, or quality assurance and compliance.
  • In collaboration with the Program Lead, developing and implementing course learning outcomes, curriculum maps, resource guides, textbooks, syllabi templates, and updated course materials; includes region specific coursework as desired.
  • Overseeing the instruction of specific courses within the curriculum. Responsibilities include supporting the Program Lead in the selection of instructors, advising on syllabi, and evaluating instructor performance.
  • Identifying and providing recommendations to keep curriculum relevant and industry leading.
  • Working with the Program Lead to ensure regional programs meet license/accreditation requirements and participate in comprehensive regional evaluations and periodic reviews.
  • In collaboration with the Program Lead, creating modularity guidelines and recommendations for program content integration across the programs and regional campuses.

Teaching and actual course load may vary with other responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to:

Faculty & Student Support (20% of time)

  • In coordination with the Program Lead, assess and enhance instructional quality of courses by offering follow-up coaching to regional part time faculty.
  • Collaborating with the Program Lead to recruit and vet qualified candidates for part time faculty positions.
  • Assisting the program in the onboarding of new regional part time faculty and maintaining ongoing communications and mentorship to gauge engagement within the program.
  • Providing opportunities for part time faculty to engage with program and college activities; seek their professional and curricular feedback.
  • Working with faculty and staff in providing advice regarding course selection as requested by Academic Advisors and/or Program Managers.

Program, Region, and College Support (20% of time)

  • Collaborating with the Program Lead to develop and drive regional strategies for program expansion, including:
  • Analyzing regional enrollment and retention data and developing strategies to achieve regional enrollment goals.
  • Reviewing and refining the program’s regional positioning and messaging documents.
  • Evaluating the fiscal viability of the regional program within the overall portfolio.
  • Promoting development of new degrees and certificates within the portfolio to meet demands of the marketplace.
  • Identifying enrollments goals for regional programs
  • Collaborating with the Program Lead to define processes and best practices for leveraging professional networks within the region to create deeper connections between stakeholders.
  • Creating local events to increase student connections to regional campus, on-ground student development, and expanding impact of curricular content within the market.
  • Coordinating with the Program Lead in the creation and management of industry advisory boards.
  • Representing the program in regional orientations, open houses, and tracking student progress.
  • In collaboration with the Program Lead, identify and reach out to possible Co-op and experiential learning sponsors to establish relationships and define engagement.
  • Participating in program and faculty committee meetings as applicable. This is expected to include serving on committees that support the mission of the program and the vision of the College and wider University.
  • The selected applicant will also be expected to provide support for select CPS events, including CPS Toronto Regional Campus Graduation, CPS Internal Faculty Conference, as well as Graduate Student Open Houses and Orientations

Travel

  • In addition to supporting the Toronto Regional campus, occasional travel may be required to the University’s Campus in Boston, and potentially other locations, especially within Ontario, Canada

Supervision

This position reports to the Program Lead of MS in Regulatory Affairs.

This is a non-tenure track, annually renewable position. This position requires a flexible work schedule that includes being present on Northeastern Universities’ Toronto Regional campus, required evening hours and the possibility of weekend hours. Travel to the University’s other Regional Campuses may be required. There may be opportunities to teach overseas.
