Position Title: Senior Investigative Analyst

Salary Range: $54,821 - $57,159

Position Summary:

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Senior Investigative Analyst in the Trial Division. The Senior Investigative Analyst is responsible for providing highly skilled analytical and investigative support to the Trial Division, its Investigators, and senior Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) investigating and prosecuting homicides and other major crimes in Manhattan. This Analyst will also support the Division’s Chief and Deputy Chiefs with analysis and management of the Division’s entire caseload.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting senior ADAs in the investigation of homicides and other major crimes,
  • Synthesizing and preparing evidence for Grand Jury proceedings, including multi-source demonstrative aids, timelines, and charts.
  • Testifying in Grand Jury presentations and at trial. 
  • Performing in-depth searches to investigate witnesses, suspects, and other persons of interest by utilizing open-source, governmental, and digital resources.
  • Provide regular updates on major cases and investigations. 
  • Creating ad hoc reports about the Trial Division’s caseload, case performance, and case outcomes.
  • Providing statistical summaries and analysis about the Trial Division’s caseload, case performance, and case outcomes.
  • Working with NYPD and other sworn law enforcement to gather and analyze evidence and support investigations. 
  • Providing guidance, training, and case level support to DANY analysts, paralegals, and attorneys.
  • Leading formal training sessions on investigative and analytical techniques and tools.
  • Staying up to date on new investigative techniques and tools and bringing opportunities to add such tools to Trial Division leadership. 
  • Building partnerships with external investigative partners, including non-profits such as NW3C and NDCAC. 
  • Performing other administrative and paralegal duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree required; and
  2. Two years of experience in a law enforcement agency, including at least one year in an Analyst role directly supporting investigations and prosecutions.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Computer proficiency required: Microsoft Office (specifically Excel). Must be able to run basic statistical analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of criminal justice investigative internet search techniques and databases, including, but not limited to, CLEAR, Accurint, and eJustice.
  • Proficiency in Internet search strategies and techniques, including preserving, obtaining, and searching electronically stored information extracted from both devices and online services.
  • Experience in creating exhibits, including multi-source exhibits, for Grand Jury presentations and trials. 
  • Experience working with video in multiple formats, creating compilations, adding annotations and markings, and redacting video clips. 
  • Comfort speaking in public, some experience, and a high degree of comfort in giving presentations in front of large audiences.
  • Superior organizational and document management skills and ability to manage multiple assignments efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, witnesses, defense attorneys, financial institutions, regulators, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Ability to communicate investigative results to other team members and to testify in court.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time-management, writing, and communication skills. Must work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.

Commitment:

  • One (1) year commitment to the Trial Division.
