The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University is seeking a distinguished scholar to join the Steinhardt School’s faculty as a tenured professor and Director for the Global TIES for Children Center. TIES, which stands for “Transforming Intervention Effectiveness and Scale,” is an international research center devoted to supporting human development and education in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and/or in conflict- and crisis-affected countries (CCACs). This full-time appointment will be made at the tenured associate or full professor level. We seek a candidate with demonstrated clear and significant impact on research, practice and policy in LMICs and/or CCACs to lead Global TIES for Children. Candidates who show a history of commitment to and skill in developing research/practice/policy partnerships to advance human development and education are especially encouraged to apply.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate is expected to direct the Global TIES for Children Center, which was launched in 2015 at NYU Steinhardt and is housed within NYU’s Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC). Global TIES for Children draws on the substantial resources of IHDSC at NYU to support inter- and trans-disciplinary research on human development in context, as well as the broader resources of NYU Steinhardt and the University. The new Director will inherit some existing projects and staff but is expected to further develop the portfolio of projects and actively engage in fundraising, both for project-based as well as core funding and/or endowment support.

The Center’s vision and mission are below. Over time and in consultation with key internal and external stakeholders, the new Director may choose to revise the vision and mission to meet new goals and priorities aligned with the broad focus on human development and education in low- and middle-income and/or conflict- and crisis-affected countries.

In addition to leading the Center, the candidate will be expected to maintain their own line of influential scholarship as well as teach and advise undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. Involvement in department and/or school committees is also expected. The most likely departmental homes at NYU Steinhardt are the Departments of Applied Psychology; Applied Statistics, Social Sciences, and Humanities; or Teaching and Learning. 

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $140,000-$210,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of teaching, externally funded research, and scholarship and leadership at the international level. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong record of interdisciplinary collaborations and multi-method approaches to tackling big questions in the developmental and educational sciences. In addition, the candidate is expected to possess a deep understanding of, commitment to addressing, and demonstrated ability to navigate issues of race, power, and privilege, especially as they surface in Minority-Majority World collaborative relationships with stakeholders at multiple levels (e.g., researchers, community-based organizations, policy makers). Evidence of successful and sustained research-practice-policy partnerships with governments, NGOs, civil society and communities in LMICs and/or CCACs with demonstrated impact on practice, policy, and research are strongly preferred. Finally, we expect the candidate to have a record of successful leadership of large units or portfolios, with associated experience in financial, organizational, and human resource aspects of management.
