The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

CORE FUNCTIONS

Department Specific Functions

The Post-Doctoral Fellow is an integral team member in the program of clinical research and clinical service delivery at the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience and Aging (CNSA). Training will center upon learning state of the art methods to assess, diagnose and treat neurodegenerative diseases. The Fellow will also learn to analyze data, prepare manuscripts for publication, prepare grant applications, and execute NIH-funded studies. 

Training Emphasis:

The focus of the research fellowship is to train a promising postdoctoral student to study more innovative ways of assessing and diagnosing persons in the earliest stages of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and related disorders (ADRD). There is also a strong focus on cross-cultural neuropsychological assessment, cognitive training, and cognitive neuroscience. Clinical training hours for licensure will also be facilitated. The training opportunities are as follows: a) studying the earliest preclinical manifestations of ADRD; b) participate in the development and implementation of novel measures to assess prodromal and preclinical ADRD; c) learn to clinically evaluate different ethnic and cultural groups for early stage mild-cognitive impairment; d) learn how to interpret and to conduct research relating cognitive and functional test findings to biological measures of the brain (e.g., structural MRI, amyloid and tau PET, blood-based markers); e) learn to prepare manuscripts and grant applications for further extramural grant support, f) operationally execute a study protocol, g) provide and help develop cognitive training interventions for ADRD, h) train/supervise pre-doctoral practicum students.

Fellows will participate in diagnostic interviews, research team meetings, neuropsychological and functional testing. The post-doctoral fellow will be exposed to additional novel neuropsychological measures developed by mentors at the CNSA. In addition, they will be provided with weekly didactics as part of the University of Miami neuropsychology fellowship training program which includes the following topics: differential diagnosis, neuroanatomy, neuropathology seminars, neuroimaging, etc. Assigned readings and mentorship for projects and presentations to scientific meeting and to peer-reviewed journals will be offered. In addition, there will opportunities to meet with other faculty mentors to review scientific aspects of the research being conducted, and to provide mentorship in their areas of expertise.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Completed an APA accredited internship with a major emphasis in neuropsychological assessment. Have training and experience working with geriatric individuals. Any appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant experience will be considered. Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA accredited graduate-training program in Clinical Psychology preferred.
