Faculty

Description

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Emergency Medicine

Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow/Trainee

Position #00811534: – Requisition #:30375

Job Summary:

The Cape-Colorado-Combat (C3) Global Trauma Network within the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is recruiting one outstanding early-career stage research investigator to undertake an intensive two- or three-year postdoctoral program of mentored, applied research focusing on epidemiology and outcomes of traumatic injuries.

The postdoctoral position will be awarded on a competitive basis to an individual who has completed a doctoral degree program (MD, PhD, DrPH, ScD, DNP, DO, or equivalent) and has demonstrated commitment and interest to health research. The ideal candidate will have a keen career interest in any of the following areas of relevance to the C3 Lab: trauma and acute care, global health, military medicine, clinical trials, injury epidemiology, and/or health in resource-limited settings.

The fellow will collaborate and contribute to ongoing research within the C3 Lab as a core part of the experiential postdoctoral experience, but will also have an opportunity to take primary ownership of other project(s) within the C3 Lab. For all projects, there will be intensive mentoring and supervision offered, other experienced study investigators in the C3 Lab, and research faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine. The specific content of the fellowship will be tailored to meet the training goals and career objectives of the fellow.

Additionally, the Department of Emergency Medicine offers several research mentorship and research career development opportunities for postdocs, including EM-STIM (a monthly scientist training and intensive mentoring program around grant development), research journal clubs, access to experienced independent research mentors in a diversity of fields, and research fellowship didactic curricula. Last, the University of Colorado generally provides a robust program of seminars and other research learning and teaching opportunities for postdoctoral scholars, including Dissemination and Implementation Science and biostatistics short courses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a project lead to oversee execution of an existing sub-project within the lab’s research portfolio (i.e., the fellow’s primary project) – this involves meeting milestones and deliverables, troubleshooting, working with other research staff and sponsors, etc. to complete research lifecycle events.
  • Develop and execute a new sub-project within our portfolio that is closely aligned with the fellow’s career interests (i.e., the fellow’s secondary project)
  • Serve as the lead author of high quality manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed scientific journals (goal is 2 first-author submissions per year) using lab or related data.
  • Substantively contribute as the middle author of lab manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed scientific journals (minimum of 2 middle-author submissions per year).
  • Assist with creating scientific presentations and reports to support dissemination activities in the lab.
  • Assist general research operations in the lab, which includes miscellaneous scientific, administrative, and educational activities.

Why Join Us:

The C3 Lab conducts innovative, collaborative, federally funded trauma care research in high-trauma international settings, with a heavy focus on South Africa. A variety of rigorous observational and interventional methodologies are used to fill evidence gaps. The C3 Network seeks to generate high quality evidence to enhance early trauma care, with a special focus on improving patient outcomes in resource-constrained settings. The C3 Network has a track record of NIH and U.S. Department of Defense funding, including dozens of published peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific presentations, and several on-going large funded projects. Our research deliberately seeks to fill clinical and scientific gaps for civilians worldwide and the U.S. military.
