Company Overview

This opportunity within the Electrical department is for an experienced Principal / Senior Principal Electronics Design Engineer to support the design and development of the electrical hardware designs to operate our current and next generation high speed Imaging Sensors. This includes Charge Coupled Devices (CCDs), CMOS image detectors (visible and infra-red) and their associated Read Out ICs (ROICs)

The ideal candidate will also have some exposure to space satellite systems and will be expected to draw upon that experience to support and advise in discussions relating to the strategic direction of our electronics capability, within the context of Detector Sub Systems for space.

Position Summary and Responsibilities:

The Engineer will be working in cross-functional teams reporting to project managers to achieve project objectives that ensure our capabilities are maintained at the cutting edge and aligned with our development roadmaps. Doing so will require acquiring an intimate knowledge of how our current and new devices operate along with the practical application of the test circuits and peripheral sub-systems that make up the wider picture in respect to the testing and validation of the sensors.

In collaboration with the systems group the Engineer will provide bid and business development support. This support will include reviewing and specifying technical proposals, conducting trade off analysis, and supplying estimates for effort and material cost.

  • Preparation and presentation of designs, concepts and solutions concepts that capture the top-level criteria found within requirements specifications driven both by internal and external customer needs.
  • Capturing detailed system architecture by way of interface diagrams and charts; using them to embellish lifecycle documentation to navigate through gate reviews and progress the development efficiently.
  • Full PCB design for space applications including component selection, schematic capture, analysis, documentation, stack-up definition, and administration of external layout activity.
  • Taking a strong lead with running effective testing and diagnostics that lead to measured product verification and performance validation, such as interface reliability or improved functionality.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of PCB design approaches required when dealing with Hi-Speed circuitry
  • Space electronics experience considered highly advantageous towards the selection process
  • Ability to create electronic designs that are innovative and add value to new and existing test systems
  • PCB CAD skills are essential, with a real advantage to candidates who have CADENCE or ALTIUM experience
  • Strong and in depth understanding of electronics and electrical interfaces
  • Ability to convey technical data and complex electrical designs in an easy-to-understand format.
