Responsibilities:

The Institute on Race, Power, and Political Economy (the Institute) advances scholarship to understand structural inequalities and works to identify transformational ways to promote equity. As a premier cross-disciplinary hub, the Institute draws on faculty across The New School in New York City, which has long fostered innovative thinking about power, structure, design, politics, economics, and society. The Institute also engages practitioners, including community and business leaders, policymakers, philanthropists, journalists, and freelancers, across the nation and around the world. Under the direction of the Institute’s Senior Fellow, the Research Assistant will provide administrative support for the promotion of the Institute’s work regarding interactions with these constituents.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Fellow with research and public education/engagement projects. Those projects may include: a forthcoming racial and economic justice art exhibit, a symposium and catalog publication and an examination of new economic models rooted in a human rights framework.
  • Provide research assistance in support of a variety of projects, utilizing an array of resources ranging from scholarly journals to op-eds and in-person interviews.
  • Create drafts of op-eds, articles, and memos, and work closely on their editing and distribution.
  • Organize and assist with interviews and meetings and take notes
  • Act as a co-producer for projects. This may include working to craft budgets, working with TNS employees to ensure compliance, or meeting with consultants to ensure that the project is moving forward.
  • Provide administrative support for successful program and project travel. This will include regular interactions with Institute staff and stakeholders, careful note taking and record keeping, as well as making occasional logistical arrangements for key meetings and exchanges, like managing meeting venue, flight, hotel and meal reservations, and allied expense reporting.

Work Mode

Remote – Employees in this position will work remotely and are not expected to be on campus. The university has designated specific states in which it will register and in which Fully Remote employees will perform work

Salary Range

Rate: $22.08/hr

  • Passion to explore a broad range of intersections bearing on arts and culture, community economic development financing and social enterprise, education, human rights, and new models of multicultural prosperity sharing
  • Proven organizational and logistical capabilities, including strong budget and project management skills
  • Excellent writing, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Ease and comfort in the use of computers and related high technology for essential business and public engagement purposes
  • Highly evolved sense of professionalism, discretion, and good judgment in decision making
  • Strong team player and commitment to follow through with timely delivery at a consistently high level of quality
  • Healthy sense of ambiguity, humor, patience, and flexibility
  • Good team player, capable of and comfortable working well with others towards common aims
