Responsibilities

The Senior Drilling Engineer provides the main engineering interface with the client. The SDE is responsible for effective well design, the implementation of the directional plans, and the application of drilling solutions in the projects he/she leads. Provides technical support and training to the drilling engineering team to deliver the safest and most efficient plans to drill a well meeting all expectations.

The senior drilling engineer is involved with the design, planning, and the post drilling analysis of conventional and complex wells (e.g. ERD, HPHT, Multilaterals, etc.). He/she follows the drilling engineering process and provides real time decision support to drilling services engineers (operations, sales, management, etc.) and clients.

Acts as the de subject matter expert in their Geozone, delivering support on integrated Weatherford’s well construction technologies, optimization solutions, and tender responses related with their projects.

  • Responsible for the QA/QC process for the creation and management of a drilling events database for risk analysis during the design phase.
  • Monitor and analyzes data to recommend services and solutions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge & skills to perform work processes according to their role level experience & competence.
  • Accountable for the quality control process to the drilling data received from the field to produce daily monitoring analyses, collect end of well reports, document lessons learned, and generate KPIs for the optimization process.
  • Responsible for the execution and interpretation of drilling engineering analyses in the design phase: BHA design, BHA tendency, hydraulics, torque & drag, and BHA vibration modelling.
  • Responsible for Drilling Engineering technical support in their Geozone.
  • Provide real-time decision support to the drilling team to maximize drilling efficiency and minimize risk while achieving the well objective.
  • Assist the Drilling and Evaluation team in post-well root-cause analysis.
  • Assist with ensuring effective communication between all parties (client, Drilling Services, Product Lines, third parties, etc).
  • Keep up to date and review new technology for possible application to projects.
  • Perform and coach others with offset well analysis, hazard identification, and risk control.
  • Participates in tender responses.
  • Accountable for the Weatherford Drilling Engineering standard technical design report for the assigned jobs.
  • Responsible for the well risk assessment based on proposed well plans and work with the drilling team to develop action/ contingency plans for each risk.
  • Attend pre-planning and daily meetings with the RTOC team, Weatherford office support, and customers (when required).
  • Assist in presentation of recommendations and evaluations to clients as required.
  • Lead, execute, and coach others in the development and review of well programs, operating procedures, presentations, end-of-well reports, and other documentation as required to support effective communication and continuous improvement.
  • Support Drilling Services technical sales when required.
  • Participate in Drilling Services Service Delivery & QHSSE initiatives.
  • Partake in drilling engineering audits in their Geozone and provide active support to complete audits’ corrective actions.
  • Handle with fluency the regular Drilling Engineering, Directional Drilling, and Logging while Drilling technical language in order to support DE Manager and DD/MLWD Operations as required.
  • Promote technical excellence image of Company and Segment (publish papers, attend/ present at public forums, and otherwise gain recognition for the Segment products and services).
  • Be available for after-hours support to on-going operations as needed.
  • Develops and maintains a positive relationship with clients to ensure repeat business.
  • Fully responsible for delivering superior Service Quality to the client.
  • Follows up failures with the R&M team and ensures failure reports are closed with clients.
  • Contribute, participate, or lead failure investigations that support Root Cause Analysis reports.
  • Carry out work assignments with the highest level of service delivery.
  • Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by DE Manager within the physical constraints of the job.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited University
  • Meets Product Line Career Path Criteria Experience and openness to proactively work across Product Line boundaries to visualize, engineer, and deliver drilling hazard mitigating solutions.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Drilling Engineer II
  • Work experience in two or more Geozones.
  • DD and LWD/MWD field experience relevant to DE career path requirements.
  • Completed WP-1, WP-2, DE-1 & DE-2 Competency Assessment.
  • 5+ years of relevant Drilling Engineering experience.
  • Fluent with well design terminology and methods.
  • Proficient in anti-collision and well trajectory analysis.
  • Advanced torque & drag, vibration, and hydraulics analysis knowledge.
  • Advanced knowledge of Drilling terminology.
  • Advanced with the different forms of vibration encountered while drilling.
  • Advanced knowledge of Directional Drilling practices.
  • Survey Quality Analysis and Well Planning.
