We are part of the Climate and Resource Integration department with team members located in Porto and Aarhus, responsible for delivering climate data capabilities where needed. We are also responsible for the simulation and modelling of the weather and climate and how they affect the wind turbines in the real world and the development of tools to be used mostly in pre-construction phase to be used on tasks like site evaluation, resource assessment, layout optimization, wake modelling or yield assessment.

Responsibilities

Vestas is currently seeking to fill a Scientific Computing Developer position that will contribute for the development, implementation and validation of new tools and methodologies for adequate site evaluation, layout optimization, wake modelling and yield assessment. You will be responsible for developing and maintain siting tools. As such, you need to be able to understand the mathematical modelling methods used, but also to understand and understand how to build robust software solutions by contributing and promoting the continuous improvement of processes and tools.

Your tasks will include:

  • Contribute to the future development of the siting tools at Vestas.
  • Design and developing software using scientific analysis and mathematical models.
  • Design and implement functional requirements.
  • Implement software enhancements and suggest improvements.
  • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting.
  • Contribute to the scientific activities of the group.
  • Working closely with specialists/engineers to determine technical direction of solutions across departments.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Geophysics, Mathematics, Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
  • Working experience in wind industry.
  • Experience in site evaluation, layout optimization, wake modelling or yield assessment of wind farms will be valued.
  • Proficient in Python or a similar high-level programming language.
  • Understanding of the object-oriented programming principles.
  • Experience with integration and deployment tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins, Azure Devops).
  • Professional experience building software solutions (primarily Linux environment).
