The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region for CooperVision consists of the country markets of Japan, South Korea, Australia & NZ, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia as well as Asia Distributor markets, including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. 

CooperVision Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines (South East Asia(SEA)) consolidates into the Asia-Pacific region. 

The Financial Controller, Taiwan, will serve as a key member of the CVI Taiwan Leadership Team and have primary day-to-day responsibility for all financial, accounting, tax, treasury, internal control, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, reporting and compliance activities, including regulatory requirements within the medical device industry.

This is a significant business partnering role requiring a high-caliber individual to collaborate with the Taiwan Leadership Team and all functions to make decisions, providing tactical and strategic financial leadership, to help achieve financial targets and business goals. This role will be based in Taiwan and serve as a key member of the Taiwan Leadership Team and APAC Finance Leadership Team.

This role will be accountable for driving operational efficiencies by identifying and implementing systems and process enhancements that create improved controls, service levels and operational improvements and will understand and anticipate the appropriate information, metrics and business intelligence.

Essential Functions

The Financial Controller, Taiwan will have primary day-to-day responsibility for/to:

  1. Oversee the general accounting function for Taiwan, including leading the month end closing process to ensure it is completed on a timely and accurate manner; Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance. 
  2. Leading and managing daily accounting operations, including: closing the books each month and preparing all Corporate submissions and management reporting within the requisite deadlines; analyzing performance and providing insights to the team to manage the business; responsible for accounts payable and accounts receivable, inventory reconciliations; and payroll coordination. Keeping Opex within budget and look for ways to save or improve Opex spending.
  3. Ensure monthly reporting for Taiwan is submitted on time including financial performance and KPIs, and in full compliance with US GAAP;
  4. Ensure compliance of all local regulations, taxation, audit and statutory reporting. Liaise with all government departments and others as required;
  5. Responsible for treasury matters, including managing the balance sheet, and ensure cash-flow forecast accuracy, compliance with Corporate Treasury policy and strategy, and have sufficient cash-flow for daily operations, liaison with Corporate Banker;
  6. Responsible/Coordinate of payroll including liaising with payroll providers, review payroll, provision preparation for salary & benefit incentive, employee tax return, responsible for HCM (HR System). and HR filing;
  7. Ensure the effectiveness and compliance of the internal control system. Work to continuously improve the internal control environment; 
  8. Coordinate with external auditors for preparation of the requisite audited financial statements.
  9. Be an invaluable partner to commercial General Managers and Taiwan leadership team to provide consultation and analysis to facilitate sound business decision making; Performing financial analysis and evaluation of business opportunities and activities such as new product launches, promotion activities, trial product activations and significant marketing investments to ensure consistency with business strategy. 
  10. Participate in the timely analysis of business performance and preparation of the Monthly and Quarterly Business Review presentation, and quarterly working capital for reviews with APAC regional leadership team. Includes the ongoing assessment and reporting of business risks and opportunities;
  11. Build strong working relationships with all department heads.
  12. Providing timely and meaningful business and financial insight to enable good decisions to be made. Driving return on investment (ROI) on marketing and other investments. Driving the utilization of Business Intelligence (BI) tools for deep-dive analytics and improved decision making and investments.
  13. Provide technical financial advice and guidance to all the functions.
  14. Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues - for example: the evaluation of potential acquisitions, channel and geographic expansion and significant capital expenditure investment.
  15. Involved in the S&OP (sales & operations planning process) as needed. Help to improve forecasting accuracy;
  16. To deliver and responsible for the Long Range Strategic Plans (LRSP), forecasting and budgeting process;
  17. P&L management to ensure spent within Budget and Forecast targets and suggest improvement areas when need to;
  18. Be the Finance lead (PTP and RTR) for the Oracle ERP system, including providing appropriate continuing training across the organization;
  19. Driving process improvement and efficiency / productivity initiatives and driving continual improvement to the advantage of CooperVision and their customers.
  20. Lead the Finance team, ensuring performance objectives are set and monitored and robust individual professional and personal development plans are in place. Ongoing leadership and management of the Finance team. Mentoring and development of Finance talent.
  21. Any other ad hoc projects or initiatives that may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong quantitative orientation, exhibiting a quick grasp of numbers with the strategic ability to interpret for smart decision making. Experienced in financial modelling.
  • Demonstrated business partnering experience, building strong working relationships with commercial and operations teams to make sound business decisions. 
  • Proven technical accounting expertise, including knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Sarbannes-Oxley Act (SOX).
  • Experience in system migration/implementation.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Hands-on, Self motivated with a high level of energy and displaying initiative.
  • Continually drive for process and systems improvement.
  • Experienced to lead a small team of 3-4 people;
  • Exceptional at leading, managing and developing Finance Teams.
  • Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects or initiatives simultaneously would also be helpful.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, both external and internal (at all levels of the organization) and efficiently at all levels of the organization, create interdepartmental links based on different projects with a respective level of integrity.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

Work Environment:

  • This role is based in Taipei in a standard commercial office environment / setting. 
  • Virtual team collaboration between country and regional colleagues, through use of Webex and company instant messaging platform.
  • Prepared to work extended hours on occasion.

Experience:

  • A Financial Controller with 10 years of senior financial operational management experience in Malaysia/Singapore.
  • Experienced working in a U.S multi-national in a dynamic and competitive marketplace would be an advantage.
  • Comfortable working within a matrix-management-style organization. 
  • Demonstrates working in a highly collaborative organization with a “roll-up your sleeves” working attitude.
  • Excellent in written and spoken English. 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced university degree in business, finance or accounting with demonstrable professional experience in a commercial environment. 
  • CPA, CA or ACCA professional qualification would be an advantage.
