Description:

Seeking a Peer Specialist in our Emergency Department to provide support and linkage to treatment for patients experiencing/surviving opiate overdose.

  • Provide assessment to patients actively using harmful substances leading to overdose.
  • Educates and provides peer perspective of recovery to patients.
  • Provide linkage to the least restrictive recovery community resources, including but not limited to AA/NA support meetings, counseling, inpatient/residential treatment, intensive outpatient (IOP) and partial hospitalization program (PHP).
  • Document all patient and care team interactions in Organization EMR system(s).
  • Communicate and act as a liaison between patient, medical care team, and community recovery resources.
  • Provide compassionate social support to patients admitted to the Emergency Department experiencing a substance use disorder/crisis.
  • Strong ability to maintain composure and professionalism during within an often-changing environment.
  • Assist patient in providing family or identified support system with core recovery principles in alignment with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Model competency in recovery and wellness supporting patients on their individual recovery journey.
  • Provide culturally sensitive support to patients, utilizing evidence-based techniques including but not limited to active listening, motivational interviewing.

Required Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • 2 years of continuous recovery from mind altering substances.
  • Strong computer skills, including email; Tenacious learner to EMR systems.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Certified Recovery Peer Specialist or obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Mental Health First Aid or obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Additional peer/recovery certifications may be considered.
