Medical Director of Opthalmology Clinic at Parkland Memorial Hospital - (654138)

The UT Southwestern Department of Ophthalmology is recruiting for an individual with outstanding academic and leadership skills to serve as Medical Director at Parkland Memorial Hospital (40-50% effort) and as a key member of the Department and the Faculty Practice (50-60% effort). Applications are welcome from candidates in comprehensive ophthalmology and all ophthalmologic subspecialties. We seek an individual with an MD degree who is board certified/eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology and who is eligible for Texas medical licensure. Successful completion of an ACGME (or equivalent) accredited residency in ophthalmology is required. An AUPO accredited fellowship is preferred for subspecialty applicants.

The successful candidate will assume an important leadership role in the Department and at Parkland, our flagship teaching hospital that recently moved to state-of-the-art new facilities adjacent to the UT Southwestern main campus. Duties as Medical Director at Parkland Memorial Hospital include collaboration with program directors and medical staff to assure maximal house staff effectiveness and learning, appropriate distribution of patient care activities to assure balance of service and education, collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to promote evidence-based best practices around patient care, collaboration with operational teams and primary care leadership to develop and implement referral pathways, oversight of capital budget purchases for maintenance and acquisition of equipment for clinic and operating rooms, participation in regular meetings with Parkland medical and surgical executive committees to advocate for our service and protect surgical block time, and staffing of residents and fellows in the clinic, hospital, and operating room. Duties as a UT Southwestern faculty member will include participation in the Faculty Practice. Salary and appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
