Summary

The Quality engineer is responsible for monitoring, facilitating, measuring and assessing the effectiveness of Teledyne Controls’ product realization processes in support of manufacturing assembly, manufacturing testing, material planning, and Quality Control (QC) inspection. These activities include but are not limited to improvement of QC inspection yields, support of final acceptance or buyoff of products, support of customer audits, and support of regulatory or customer delegated conformity activities as set forth in Teledyne Quality Management System (QMS), Quality Assurance Special Inspections Instructions (QASII) and the Quality Policy and Procedures Manual (QPPM). The Quality Engineer is also responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and improving the overall quality metrics and performance of Teledyne Controls’ Suppliers; as well as providing required quality control oversight for Purchased Products, the receiving inspection and verification processes, and its conformance to the specified requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform Initial Supplier on site surveys, perform recurrent audits of Supplier’s Quality System, perform source inspection to suppliers, provide required support during customer source inspection, and audit Supplier’s Processes and Process Control.
  • Review Supplier Quality and Supply Chain Questionnaires and approve or reject Supplier.
  • Review Supplier Quality Performance and issue reports to Supply Chain when requested and recommend Supplier Corrective Action Request to be issued.
  • Review internal material Purchase requisitions and assign required Quality Provision Riders.
  • Act as liaison between Teledyne Controls and the Suppliers on all Quality issues and assist other departments with Suppliers’ issues
  • Establish and implement Supplier performance improvement actions including, 4-Square Root Cause and Corrective Action Analysis (RCCA), monitoring supplier’s proposed corrective actions, conducting supplier get well visits, monitoring supplier processes, and conducting scheduled supplier performance reviews with the suppliers of concern. Additionally, perform independent investigation, determine root cause (s), and propose corrective actions for all quality-related escapes in the overall manufacturing operation (i.e., material kitting, manufacturing assembly and testing, QC Inspections, and shipping)
  • Ensuring that the Supplier operations remain compliant with AS9100 / ISO9001 Standards, Corporate Policies, Company Practices, and Regulatory and Customer Requirements.
  • Provide technical support for Quality Control (QC) Inspections of all incoming material (Part, Chemicals, Components, PWBs, CCAs, Subassemblies and Assemblies) used in the manufacture of deliverable items. 
  • Review and when required Perform First Article Inspection (FAI) on incoming material and generate First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs); as well as support for First Article Inspection and Net-Inspection at Factory in accordance with AS9102.
  • Review and approve/disapprove, and track Supplier Waiver and Deviation requests in coordination with Quality Control Management, Supply Chain, and Engineering as required.
  • Monitor product non-conformity rejection reports in TIPQA Database in support of both Factory In-Process and Receiving Inspection. Review and generate Rejection Reports, when required, to document non-conformance of material, and participate in the Preliminary Material Review Board and Material Review Board (MRB) process and associated quality engineering work activities; and generate and administer the Purge Process when needed. Assemble Supplier Performance Data, utilizing TIPQA Database, and in accordance with established procedures for the monthly or quarterly reporting. Investigate Supplier related issues at receiving inspection and/or production line related and initiate corrective action when needed.
  • Plan and conduct internal supplier quality performance reviews to discuss suppliers’ performance and collaborate with other functional department including Supply Chain to define required strategic actions towards improving the supplier quality performance.
  • Lead, conduct and facilitate supplier audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings with supplier; as well as provide required quality assurance support during customers and FAA audits.
  • Drive and coordinate quality issues related to factory or supplier problems with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Design Quality Assurance (DQA), Manufacturing Engineering, Material Planning, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering Departments.
  • Quality Control Oversight: (i) Support Factory In-Process Inspection, Receiving Inspection, and Repair Station QC inspection. (ii) Monitor and improve QC inspection yield data. (iii) Provide required quality support during the conduct of FAA or customer delegated conformity Inspection. 
  • Generate new and improve existing Quality Assurance Special Inspection Instructions (QASII).
  • Review, tool-proof as required, and process Quality Assurance Bulletin (QAB).
  • Perform Industrial Risk Analysis for new production standards or updates to the existing standards.
  • Tool-proof all new or update to Production Test Procedure (PTP), Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) or Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) Procedures. Customer Corrective Action Request: Investigate customer corrective action, determine likely root cause(s), and establish appropriate containment action(s) and corrective action for field product returns and returns trends for which the root cause(s) have been attributed to manufacturing workmanship defects, process breakdown or deficiencies, and/or suppliers’ nonconforming material or issues.

Other Qualifications

  • This position requires travel, primarily within the U.S. and to Teledyne’s other facilities. On the average, 8 to 10 business trips per calendar year will be needed. 
  • TIPQA database experience is a major plus.
  • Knowledge and Experience with AS9145 APQP/PPAP Standard is a plus.
  • Knowledge and Experience with AS9146 Foreign Object Damage (FOD) Standard is a plus.
  • Independent, self-motivated individual with demonstrated success.
  • Passionate, high-energy, self-starting team player who achieves goals and strives for continuous improvement.
  • Must be able to work extended long hours if workload requires to get work done. May be asked to work weekends and Holidays.
  • This position requires that all work must be worked between facilities core hours.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university.

10+ years in quality management or related engineering, manufacturing processes, or supply chain discipline with leadership experience; experience in Avionics preferred.

Salary Range:

$74,800.00 - $124,960.00
