PostDoctoral Research Fellow

The NSF AI Institute for Artificial and Natural Intelligence (ARNI) seeks highly qualified candidates for Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions, starting in Summer or Fall 2023.

ARNI is about cross-disciplinary collaboration between AI researchers and neuroscientists aiming to advance both fields. 

Research areas and approaches include:

  • Robust and flexible learning
  • Continual learning
  • Reasoning about causality and uncertainty
  • The neural mechanisms of intelligence
  • Language and vision

Fellows will be based at Columbia University in the City of New York, and will be able to collaborate with any of the numerous ARNI researchers at Columbia, and at Baylor College of Medicine, CUNY, Princeton, UPenn, Tuskegee, Carnegie Mellon, Rice, Yale, and Harvard.

Fellows will be tasked with and supported in carrying out state-of-the-art research, and contributing to the academic life and reputation of the institute. Fellows will also steer and lead ARNI’s scientific activities such as seminars and workshops. Successful applicants will work with two or more faculty from ARNI, and will collaborate with researchers across all disciplines.

Term: The initial term of the fellowship is one year, with opportunity for renewal for a second year pending performance and ongoing availability of funds.

Salary and Benefits: The position provides a salary between $80,000 and $90,000 annually, as well as a competitive benefits package. Funding for travel and other research needs is also provided. 

Process: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science or a related field (conferred by the time of their start date), with a focus on at least one of ARNI’s five research areas. We encourage applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities.
